Wife and I had a king single room, furniture we think was supposed to be stylishly vintage, rather than dingy and vintage from use. My sister, the bride, her suite I was called on to repeatedly request repairs to entertainment center/ tv that didn't work, and lights over bar didn't work or flashed like strobes. Once repaired, at bedtime, you were unable to turn them off. repeat, could not turn lights off.
A/c in my room didn't function well. Elevators were very worn.
We were at hotel with 8 to 10 other rooms of people. The lobby bar closed at 11pm on Friday night. The lobby bar did not reopen until 5pm saturday evening. That created a problem as there really isn't much room in the lobby.

The staff was great, it was the building and it's equipment compared with the cost that was the issue.

Room Tip: Hmmm, keep looking.

My sister and I had a weekend trip with our five kids... We were so worried our stay was not gonna be fun.. We weren't aware of exact location or hotel condition.. Our surprise came quickly... The moment we pulled up the hotel attendant directed us to prepay immediately that way we would save money "spot hero". He saved us over 100 dollars.. Sweet as honey. The girls at the desk were dolls.. They accomadated us to adjacent rooms on the 14 floor.. The rooms were spacious and super clean!! The decor was old Hollywood. A burlesque style... Loved loved the view and the location. Dunkin donuts a block away. Shopping was so nearby. The river taxis a few steps away. Wow great experience. 2 thumbs up... Great hotel overral

Great staff, great location nice sized room.
1st, we got in early (about 11 am) and were allowed to check in big PLUS!
Doormen were very helpful
Only complaint is that the concierge lounge was being renovated so we were relegated to a small area of the restaurant.

The hotel is under Marriott Autograph. I stayed four nights at this hotel and spent over 1400 dollars and the hotel did not provide any tea or breakfast during my stay. Of course, you and I can compare other hotels. Other hotels are more generous with warm hearts than Hotel Chicago Downtown. I checked in the suite and dirty towels were on the floor. Housekeeper cleaned our suite once during my four days/nights stay. They placed me to a shadow room without sun. I never saw sun or sunny side in the suite where I stayed. Even I never saw a river from the suite. I asked a front desk rep to relocate. They said NO. My 1400 dollars were wasteful.
I absolutely agree that the hotel has beautiful walls and has stylish vanity interior BUT the hotel does not win our hearts with warm feelings or leave us an unforgettable experience.

Room Tip: Ask a front desk if the room has sunny side or river view or marina city view if you are looking for...

We stayed at the Hotel Chicago at the end of May and were happy to learn that it’s now a Marriott hotel. We’ve been staying at the hotel for many years now, beginning when it was The House of Blues Hotel, due to its location and friendly staff. I realize that they will be updating and upgrading to the Autograph standards later this year but I'm not familiar with them yet, but looking forward to finding out! The rooms are a bit larger than some of the other hotels in the city which is helpful for longer stays.

When we first started staying at the hotel many years ago, we met Richard, Bell Captain, and he’s been great, extremely helpful and is always smiling! He’s always happy to see us, very welcoming and provides great recommendations on restaurants, activities, etc. He’s so personable and asks how we’re doing and what are plans are while we’re in town. It’s nice to see a familiar and smiling face always willing to go above and beyond to help!

Room Tip: Some rooms on the south side have a nice view of the river and higher floors have less street noise.

It was funny to arrive at the hotel and realize that we'd stayed here twenty odd years ago when it was the Hotel Nikko. The service at the hotel was great - Murphy the doorman took excellent care of us for our whole trip. The decor in the our room was great and the beds were comfortable but not up to the usual Marriott standards.
The concierge lounge leaves a lot to be desired. The food and drinks were up to snuff but the lounge itself was carved out of the bar. The bar itself is horrendous - red plush velvet (fits the name Crimson Room), low stools, and closed on Sunday. This place is missing a restaurant. Bin 36 is next door but it is no hotel restaurant.
It seems like this place is still a work in progress. For my money, the Marriott just up Michigan Ave is a better bet.
