I booked the hotel through Priceline, so the price was more reasonable than other 4 stars hotels in the same neighborhood. However, there is a reason for that. The hotel is very old and it shows. The elevators are old and small, I can barely get my suitcase through the door. The bathroom can only squeeze in one person. The closet is as wide as the safe deposit box. Also I found that there are additional charges to things that I would usually get for free in other 4 star hotels, I.e. Room Wifi $10; double beds $25, late Check out $50, fridge $25. After you add them all up, it cost just as much as other 4 star hotels in the neighborhood. The hotel is at a great location, but there are so many in the same neighborhood, actually 3 on the same block. The staffs are the high light of the hotel. I think this hotel is ok for single travelers. If you have 2 or more people, go somewhere else.

Toaster,

Thank you for sharing your experience. Our uniquely sized rooms are reflective of our landmark historic hotel, built in 1924.

Our lady is 90 years old this year and many improvements are in the process and will begin soon. We believe that after our renovation, your concerns will have been addressed .

All the best, and we look forward to your return to our wonderful city, Chicago.

Kindly,

We stayed at the Allerton for a conference we were attending at the McCormick Place. It was an easy taxi drive to get back and forth to the conference. The Allerton is wonderfully located in the heart of Magnificent Mile. We took the train and the hotel is also located only a few miles from Union Station. The rooms are not large but well appointed. Our bed was a little hard. I have read that they are in the process of replacing mattresses, however, I don't think ours was one of them. The room was spotless and the bedding very fresh and nice. I found the Concierge to be one of the best we have ever encountered at a hotel. Be sure to tip them well, in the end, they are what can make just an ok experience into an outstanding one! All in all, we had a great experience at this hotel and I would recommend. As others have said, however; be sure to upgrade to the King room. I believe the Queen rooms are ridiculously small.

Room Tip: Ask to have a room away from the elevators.

Shay G,

Glad to hear your conference was a success and yes, we agree, our location on Michigan Avenue is one of a kind.

Our mattresses will be replaced late Q4 and into Q1 2015 and any we can increase from queen to king size, will be done.

Thank you again for sharing your experience as we hope to share our hospitality with you again when you return to Chicago.

Great location on Michigan Ave. Older hotel, but a lot of rehab has been done, making the public areas, the sleeping rooms, and the meeting rooms comfortable. Excellent ratefor chicago in the summer. I'd stay here again!

Our family of four stayed in a spacious suite. The room was clean and very comfortable. The location was fabulous. Walk out the door and you are on the Magnificent Mile! We would definitely stay again.

The staff were friendly and helpful, location excellent and the rooms clean, however that's where it stopped. Rooms were very small and we were given an upgrade! I would not like to think what size the room we booked was like. Rooms were not ready by the advertised check in time, our room was not cleaned by 5:00pm on various days, we had to twice ask for the room to be serviced. The hotel offered very poor facilities, fridge could only be used for mini bar services as it was designed to take specific size bottles and was not even deep enough to take a can of drink lying down, plus there was a notice stating you would be charged if used for any other purpose. Wifi was only free for 1 hour a day and available only in the small lobby/reception area, wifi reception was not great. No tea or coffee facilities in the room, had to ask for basic toiletries. Overall I though it was very poor value for money and would not recommend unless you were only staying 1 night and just needed a place to sleep.

When we first arrived at the hotel we learned that parking was $60 a night- more expensive than the room itself. Luckily the gentlemen at the valet directed us to a cheaper public parking garage a block away on Rush St. Only $40 a night, much better I guess. The first room they assigned us to was so tiny, the bed was no bigger than a single bed, a little ridiculous. We also found about five or more fly like bugs all over the ceiling, we immediately called down to demand another room. We received no apology over the phone she hung up on us. We went down to the concierge and a gentlemen apologized and reassigned us a slightly bigger room with a bigger bed and no bugs to share the room with. He also gave us a free breakfast voucher and free wifi in the room. After all of that we had no other issues other than the ice machine running out of ice. Next time I will stay in a different area of Chicago for this location is full of tourists as expected given the area but we will stay in a different area that we fell in love with, north Clark. Thanks Chicago for a lovely time!

Allerton/Warwick hotel Chicago
An older hotel that has its lack of modern conveniences far surpassed by it's prime down town location.
No coffee maker in room, free in lobby, small cups, no lids, well planned for spilt coffee and scalded hands.
Free wifi in lobby only,
Our room was perfect for a downtown hotel and although washroom was small, it was nicely laid out with a make up mirror as we'll.
Travellers tip....bring an empty coffee travel mug or two for convenient delivery of coffee to your room:)

Room Tip: It was worth the extra $15 to get a king sized bed, room was slightly larger.
