“Almost a great hotel!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Overall the Warwick Allerton was a very good hotel. The room was spacious (suite), the windows opened, the bed was comfortable and the service was top notch from the bar to the maids. The location cannot be beat. However, the entrance to the hotel is very odd and check-in is curiously placed within the restaurant/bar that is also somewhat oddly arranged.

I'm assuming the retail space on the corner is separate from the hotel which is unfortunate because the Warwick in New York makes great use of a similar corner for its' bar, check-in and restaurant.

Would we stay here again? Absolutely! Even with the quirks it was a very good hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get a corner room overlooking Michigan avenue.

I am sad to say I had a terrible experience. My credit card was charged twice this was just the start. One the room was very very small. The bathroom was Even smaller you literally have to squeeze around the door to get to the toilet. The shower was barely big enough for one person. The door handles in the room are dirty one of our pillow cases had black stuff on it. Non of the staff knows what's going on or al least that's the impression we where given. It was a mess I will NEVER stay there again and I visit Chicago a lot. It's to bad really don't get tricked into staying here there are so many nicer hotels down there.

Spend half my year in hotels and I am a Marriott junkie. When I got to this hotel I was greeted promptly and checked in. (Company had paid for normal queen bed room, I paid extra $40 per day to go into a suite out of pocket---VERY WORTH IT!!). The room was spacious, spectacular spacing and decor, huge king bed in separate room and great bathroom. I have stayed in many suites, and this was one of the top ten. Just a great way to get out of the norm. I will say it was a little noisy, from outside, I think this is normal for cities, but I could hear sirens all night. Overall great stay, great staff!

Room Tip: Get a suite

The breakfast buffet had a large variety of hot and cold foods; however it is expensive. There aren't really a lot of breakfast places to take off for a quick breakfast in the area, so they have you at an advantage.
Our room was fairly large, the bathroom was another story. It was small with no place to really put your toiletries.
The elevators are very small, especially when a crowd is trying to get upstairs.
The staff seems friendly and helpful. Our A/C was not working properly and the maintenance tech. was sent up promptly and had it up and running when we returned that afternoon.
Parking is also very expensive; however we found a spot a couple of blocks from the hotel that had in and out privilege at a considerable savings. Check Spot Hero if you need parking.

Room Tip: Our room view was that of the fire escape and other buildings.

The Warwick Allerton staff were friendly and prompt when checking in. We asked the porters to hold our luggage as we were too early to get our rooms and they obliged kindly. Our rooms were much later than the 4pm check-in rules state, however, we were upgraded to a better room and given a complimentary buffet breakfast the next morning. The breakfast was very good, by the way. The one BIG negative for us was the bed comfort. I have stayed in many hotels with cheaper prices, but the beds at the Warwick Allerton on Michigan Ave. was one of the most uncomfortable...almost unbearable...beds I have ever had to sleep on. They have very old mattresses on the beds. I called housekeeping after the first night and asked for any help for the bed. They said they would add more padding which they did not do. I was sad they didn't try to make it more comfortable, but since it was late and we were checking out the next morning, I didn't push it. 2 very uncomfortable nights made me very glad it was time to go home. The bathrooms are small, but efficient. I will stay again when they upgrade mattresses...not until. My back and legs are still sore from the hard, unrelenting, old mattress. Glad to be home in my own bed tonight.

Room Tip: Make sure you specifically ask for a bigger room with a view. The room we had was tiny, but I know...

Hotel is on North Michigan Avenue. Near to bars, restaurants, clubs and shops.
Excellent value for money considering the location.
Rooms are comfortable but are not large but mine was on a high floor with a view of the city.
Hotel has a bar and restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch but not dinner.
Used the bar but not the restaurant as there are many places nearby to get breakfast and its nice to sit outside and watch the world go by.
Parking next to the hotel is expensive ($60 per night) but just a block away I was able to get parking for $40 - you can probably get cheaper by booking on line

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with a view

Booked hotel through priceline by requesting 4 star. Have stayed in many Chicago 4 and 5 star hotels before. There was a Bears game so all prices were up and we were just staying one night so did the whole bid thing. Did not feel it fell into same category as other 4 star hotels in the area. Always a line for one of the 5 elevators ( that hold 3!) people with luggage. Head bartender not happy with his job. Room 3 1/2 star. Fine for a one night stay in a good location but if you want 4-5 star accomodations look elsewhere. super expensive WiFi

Room Tip: little noisy with ambulances from medical center. Go high!
