“Awesome stay in downtown Chicago!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2014 via mobile

This wonderful hotel is easy to find and within walking distance of many attractions in Chicago. Especially close to the Art Institute of Chicago and Millenium Park. The valet parking was great. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The lobby is gorgeous and the room was wonderful. The bathroom was spacious. I can't wait to go back. This will be our go to hotel in Chicago and I will be telling all my friends and coworkers about this gem.

Hotel currently being refurbished, new decor is pretty terrible but expensive and comfortable just not to my taste. fortunately they appear to be keeping the beautiful Arts & Craft lobby with its beautiful chandeliers. Staff very friendly and helpful. Also it's the perfect location.

We looked online at a number of places, and finally landed on Silversmith thanks to a savings with our AAA membership (that included parking). We loved our experience. Very clean, exceptionally friendly staff from the doorman to the desk. Room was nice and clean. Shower was large. Bathroom was big. (We had the smallest King bed room they offered.) They are in the midst of moving the reception desk to the bottom floor. It wasn't finished when we left, but it's close and looks like it will be beautiful. The train is steps outside the door, so you're close to anything. And Art Institute is two blocks away. It's on Madison, so the #20 bus runs directly to United Center (where we caught the Paul Simon/Sting concert). If you can, request a room on the back side, away from the train. That's where we were. You could hear the train, but only if the TV was off. I assume if you were on the train side it might be noisy, but that's the trade off for being so close when you want to go somewhere. We'll be back next time we are in Chicago.

We took our teenage daughters on a cross-country train trip and found ourselves in Chicago for a couple of days (during about the 8th snow storm of the winter). The Silversmith was the "cherry on the top of the sundae" of our Chicago adventure. EXCELLENT location for downtown, very clean, great service, friendly and helpful staff, but the most amazing part of the experience at the hotel was the decor. Elegant, sexy, fun! Our group ranged in ages from 13 to 50-something and every one of us was delighted.

From the great art deco chandeliers in the lobby to the pattern of the carpet in our room, we loved every well-done detail.

The "El" is literally outside the front door, so transportation around the city is super easy. This is a "walking" city, so being situated in the very heart of it was great.

I would recommend it to almost everyone (possibly a family with several young children might not be the best fit). It would be a great couples getaway, friends' outing, business option, and I would be very comfortable here alone.

On a scale of "1" to "10", I'd give the Silversmith an "11".

Room Tip: Higher floors experience less sound from the "El".

The Silversmith has all the amenities of a full size hotel and what lacks in the size of the property is made us for in service. Recently renovated the rooms are gorgeous and the public area is extremely fresh and I can't wait to visit again.

I stayed at the Silversmith for 4 days and 3 nights (Feb 16-19) and could not have asked for a better place. The hotel is a short walk from Millennium Park (The Bean) and the Art Institute of Chicago. It's a street away from shopping on Michigan Avenue and close to several restaurants. The concierge helped with food recommendations and mailing some letters. The room (810) was large and looked newly renovated. Drawback was that the view from the window was of the back of the adjacent building. Also, you can hear the el train from Wabash Ave in your room. It was muffled, but I'm sure the noise level depends on where you are in the hotel.

Next time I'm in Chicago, I will definitely be staying at the Silversmith again.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms will hear the el train for sure.

We booked this hotel because the price was reasonable and it was right near all of our favorite Chicago attractions - the Bean, Inteligentsia coffee and Macy's - and super close to L trains. We arrived early, 10am, to ask if we could store our bags. They actually had an early checkin and let us checkin that early. The desk clerk, Ariel, was so helpful, friendly and sweet. The room was clean, spacious, beautiful an cozy. But the bathroom was a great surprise - a huge shower, plush towels and robes in the closet. The bed was heavenly and the floor very quiet. We worked out in the fitness center which had high-tech treadmills and other machines, free weights, towels, filtered water, mats and tv's on every machine. LOVED working out there. The breakfast was light but perfect and the entire staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. We were able to store our bags after check out until we were ready to head out of town and the valets and concierge were so friendly. We will be staying here every time we visit Chicago for sure!
