“Excellent choice”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

I picked this hotel based on reviews combined with a good rate. The pictures does not really make it justice - it is actually very classy and high quality from end to end!

Check-in was a very pleasant experience. We got good help with all of our luggage, the receptionist was nice, welcoming and very informative.

The room is huge (2 queen size beds) with the best bathroom I have seen in the US so far. Extremely comfortable beds, complementary coffee maker, good TV, wardrobes and drawers, very nice and functional desk++

A big plus for all of the power outlets (bed table, lamp, walls...). WiFi requires login, but is free. The speed is decent, but on the low side.

The room is cool and quiet (no noise from AC). Very very clean everywhere (yes - we checked). Also love the high quality linen.

Room Tip: We stayed at the 10th floor on the back and had no problems with noise from the L

Michael Z, we're so glad you chose to stay at Silversmith during your trip to Chicago. Our hotel has recently undergone a major renovation, so we appreciate your comments regarding our accommodations and new look. We love the large bathrooms, too! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the comfortable bedding and amenities, and hope you had a chance to explore all the nearby attractions in the city. Next time be sure to stop by Adamus, our new lounge and restaurant. Thank you for the five-star review, and we hope to see you again during your next visit to the U.S.

The pictures of this hotel do not do it justice. My stay was for two days, I had a king room. It was great. I loved the size, it was very clean and comfortable. The staff is AMAZING! They went above and beyond to help us with directions, restaurant recommendations, and getting us transportation. The next time I visit Chicago I will defiantly stay at the Silversmith Hotel.

My husband and I traveled to Chicago for the weekend to see Motown the Musical. We picked this hotel because of its location and price. I've probably walked past it a hundred times and never noticed it before, but what a pleasant surprise! Very spacious and comfortable rooms, all the way down to the big fluffy towels. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. We will definitely stay here again.

We are 60-year-old self-funded retirees with lots of pleasure and business travel experience in many parts of the world. We have high, but not unreasonable expectation of hotels and, more importantly, we always try to match our expectations with what we believe we purchased. Our most important criteria for selecting a hotel are cleanliness and location. For this hotel, we booked a room with one queen size bed and got a larger room.

It’s a small establishment that had been tastefully refurbished when we stayed there in April 2014. Our room was very clean, a generous size, the bed was really comfortable and the shower was hot and strong. Our room didn't have a bath, which didn't bother us at all. The Hotel's Wi-Fi network was very good and fast. When we stayed, the second floor of the hotel, which was the foyer before renovations, was in its original condition. Drop in and have a look, it's a great example of a hotel from a previous era.

The staff was very friendly and very helpful. They even provided a list of nearby restaurants we might like to try, even though they had an in-house dining room that was very good, although we didn't use it a lot.

For location, you can't beat this hotel. It’s only a couple of blocks from Chicago town centre and 10 minutes real easy stroll to the Wrigley building. It was close to both rail and bus routes, however, being in such a great location we actually walked our way around most of the interesting parts of Chicago.

If your looking for good spots to eat. We ate at Etaly (yes, this is the correct spelling) on East Ohio St, which was a really good Italian food and wine experience and Uno Pizzeria that is just up the road from Etaly for good original Chicago Deep Dish pizza. A local recommended both of these places to us.

The only problem with the hotel is that the elevated city loop runs right outside the hotel. It's a positive if you view an EL station within meters of the front door as a benefit. We had a room at the back, and while you could hear the trains, it wasn't "show-stopper" for me. I'm a light sleeper but stilled managed to sleep well enough.

All up, this hotel is in a great location, its very good value and I'd stay there again. There were lots of business travellers staying.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel.

I just stayed at the Silversmith for 3 nights with my 21-yr-old daughter and we were completely happy. The service was topnotch: friendly and efficient. It actually made me wonder how the management got their workers to be so devoted.

Decor is modern, as others have stated, understated silver/grey neutrals with a pleasing look. The location was great for our purposes, as there is a metro station right outside the door for getting to the university we were visiting, and we were able to walk to sightseeing: 5 min to Millennial Park (Cloud Gate) and the Art Institute. For dining we took cabs and the wonderful doorman (Johnni) hailed one for us every time. (There are plenty of restaurants you could walk to; I just had specific ones I wanted to go to.)

Bedding was clean, nice linens, and comfy, soft bed (but not TOO soft; it was just right). The el train is indeed right outside of the hotel, and even after reading about it in Tripadvisor, I realized on the 2nd day that I had never noticed it. When paying attention, I heard a soft "whoosh," so they have done an amazing job of soundproofing. We WERE in the back and on an upper floor (10th), so that's all I can speak for.

The room was perfectly clean, with fridge and Keurig coffee maker. Only complaint is our room was a tad small, but everything else was so nice it was never a hardship. We had 2 queens. Flatscreen tv which we hardly used, good large bathroom, and robes! There were no towel racks, I think for aesthetic reasons, but a rack or 2 would have been useful.

Free wifi, and a functional business center for printing out boarding passes. Overall, I loved it and would go back. For the price downtown, I doubt you could beat it.

Thanks so much, LBoyer 57, for your comments regarding our staff. Our team works hard to provide an exceptional experience for our guests, so I'm glad to hear we exceeded expectations. Having just completed our renovations, we're happy to hear your thoughts about our new look, as well as our comfortable bedding. We're glad our central location was convenient for the sites you were visiting, and hope we will be your hotel of choice during future trips to the university. Please visit us again soon, and be sure to sample some of the delicious menu items and beverages available at Adamus.

Stayed at the Silversmith for just one night and was impressed by everything the hotel offered. Compared to other hotels in the area I was able to get a suite for the price of a regular room. Everyone was helpful and courteous. The location was ideal for what we wanted to do.
