We arrived by air from Athens - Moudros from the sky was a cluster of red tile roofs and a patchwork of golden, green and yellow fields, ringed by turquoise water. The hotel itself sits on a hill overlooking the Bay of Moudros - it consists of three buildings made of stone. The stones are shades of yellow, terra cotta and white and seem to grow from the place itself. This feeling is not surprising when one finds that the stones were gathered by Dina, one of the owners, and built lovingly by her.
In the morning, guests gather on the pretty patio filled with red geraniums and enjoy breakfasts of yogurt and mountain thyme honey, fresh eggs, golden bread baked with the famous Lemnian wheat, fruit preserves, and local cheese along with Greek coffee or espresso. Every day we explored the diverse geography of this historic island situated at the mouth of the Dardanelles. As well as beauty, this place is steeped in history with several archiologic sites within easy day trip distance.
Our accomodations were also beautiful and comfortable - handmade lace at the windows and on the bed, large French windows opeining onto the terrace, well appointed bathrooms. The sunsets from the terraces have no rival!

Owners Apostolos Kotsaftis and his talented mother Dina Karahalia were gracious hosts. They both knew the history of this island from ancient times to the recent past. They knew about the local specialties and were able to recommend tavernas, hikes and great beaches. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive.
I would unhesitatingly reccommend this hotel to anyone. My travel tips would be: try traveling in May - uncrowded and green, abundant with flowers. Rent a small car as there is so much to see, and the villages have narrow streets, study your ancient history to better appreciate the sites.More
