We (English family, 2 kids, limited French - but trying hard) turned up 2 weeks ago on a scorching day expecting to amble round some ruins being constrained by those red rope barriers all over the place. How wrong can you be? We met a lovely French lady called Florence who took us on what was effectively our own private tour and explained in extremely good English that the owner (in his 90s) still lives there. It's a fascinating place with wall coverings from the 16th Century and artwork everywhere that you can touch! Highly recommended for the kids; you'll get round the whole thing in about an hour and a half, stunning views over the river Lot (take a camera), you'll see some gruesome weapons, and you get to be up close and personal with some genuine 16th century stuff which is something you would never be able to do in England.
