“Great place to stay when visiting Chatsworth”
Reviewed 5 November 2013

We spent one night here when we visited Chatsworth House. We had a warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our room which was delightful and well appointed. After a full afternoon exploring the delights of nearby Chatsworth we returned and had a lovely meal. Next morning after a full English breakfast which also included porridge much to my wife's delight we walked up to the farm shop which is well worth a visit and the headed off to explore nearby Bakewell which was an unexpected delight.

Upon arrival we were shown to our room and given a lovely welcome. The rooms were very clean and well appointed - big bed, telly, shower/bath. If I had one slight criticism it's that the mattress in the Redway room has suffered from people sitting in the same spot next to the table. Totally forgot to mention that upon checking out but it's not like you're sliding out of bed, it's just a bit of a dip - I'm still giving the rooms full marks. The cafetière, coffees, teas and bathroom products supplied are very good quality.

Food's ok - I would say it's good pub grub, however it's not quite into the gastro end of the market but they look like they're trying. The prices are reasonable and worth it - the steak's pushing it at £18 though! Service was good and the staff were attentive and friendly - counts for a lot in my book.

Ideal if you're visiting Chatsworth but don't miss the farm shop which is a stroll up the road or a 30 second drive away. Food in the farm shop restaurant is also good and very good value.

The big Q: Would we go back? Yes. It's quiet, friendly and handy for Chatsworth House (10 mins by car).

Room Tip: Redway has its own doors to the rear of the pub and you can see over the wall - the view's prett...

Stayed here with friends when visiting Chatsworth. The double rooms were very clean and comfortable with free Wi-Fi. The bar was a great place for dinner with excellent food at reasonable prices. Good choice at breakfast, with local produce - I can recommend the sausages! The staff were friendly and made our stay really enjoyable. We will certainly stay again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: The double with walk-in shower was really good and quite big

We called in on the way back from Collecting my wife's new car. The day was perfect and with a new cabriolet to enjoy we looked forward to a nice lunch. Not disappointed! Fabulous Fish and Chips with a local ale. Premises are immaculate and staff wonderful

Room Tip: We did not stay on this occasion

Just returned from our stay at the Devonshire Arms, we had always wanted to visit Chatsworth and our daughter booked it as a treat! The food was fresh and tasty and well presented. The cooked breakfast was delicious and plenty of it (you will not want lunch) .The staff were most attentive even though it was very busy nothing seemed to be too much trouble. The room we had was clean and well presented,
Thank you very much for a relaxing stay

Just back from a one night break at this lovely place. Special deal which included entrance fees to Chatsworth House and Gardens.
Accommodation well up to Devonshire group standards - rooms spotlessly clean and crucially, quiet at night.
The food was excellent - classic inn fare, but beautifully cooked. The Full Derbyshire breakfast is to be recommended with produce sourced form the Chatsworth Farm Shop just up the hill (recently featured in the Times 20 posh farm shops in the UK).
Special mention to Helen Bown-Brownridge, the manager, who was very friendly and welcoming and most helpful.
You will love staying at this place
