“Excellent stay”
Reviewed 6 January 2013

We stayed at Holly Cottage for two nights immediately in the New Year after reading the positive reviews here. The village is on the Chatsworth estate and is completely unspoilt and very quiet.
We had booked the Blue Room and we were very pleased with it, the facilities not being out of place in a hotel costing a lot more. As previously mentioned Sarah's breakfasts are very good and enormous filling you up until evening meal time, the recommended six mile walk around the estate is great for walking it off!
The Devonshire Arms is two minutes walk and is very friendly with good food and excellent ales. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying again.

Room Tip: Blue Room is large and has a garden view

My husband an I stayed here for 2 nights last weekend and what a charming, lovely place to stay. We stayed in the Blue room which was beautiful complete with a well equipped en-suite. There was a drinks tray that was full of various teas, coffee, hot chocolate, bottled water and home made biscuits. For breakfast there was orange juice, lots of cereals, porridge and freshly baked toast. There was also the good old full English breakfast, we ticked everything on the sheet (which is left in your room the day before) and what a mistake that was, IT WAS HUGE! you got 2 of everything, hence to say the following day I had the same but asked to half the portions. The location was brilliant, come out the front door, turn left and 50 metres up the road you had the infamous Chatsworth shop, well worth the visit. Come out the front door, turn right and 20 metres down the road you have the Devonshire Arms, charming pub/restaurant, very friendly with a good choice of ale (so my husband said!). The location is around 3 1/2 miles from Bakewell and about 1 mile from Chatsworth house itself. Sarah is a lovely host and works very hard to make your stay comfortable. We would love to go back in the summer when the days are longer.

If you enjoyed the area in Winter, you would certainly enjoy the estate in summer- it really is so special.
Thanks again

Stayed here for a long weekend get away with a friend. We had the room with two single beds which we felt was good.
Nice little touches such as scissors to open the coffee sachets, biscuits, free wi-fi and a lovely breakfast (traditional English and veggie)
Would definitely stay here again if visiting the area.

We have just returned from a two night stay, the purpose of which was to re-visit Derbyshire and to go to the twilight Christmas Evening at Chatsworth.
Overall the quality of the B&B is very good indeed and has a lot to offer. There are three rooms and due to us booking rather late the only room available was the twin. We expected small which was fine, the room and en-suite were very well equipped and the twin beds had wonderful electric blankets. These were much appreciated as the outside temperature dropped to minus 3 and this room, as a previous reviewer had commented, is on the corner of an old building and is chilly. Shame really that the owners missed a trick on this and really should heat the room up in these wintry conditions a good hour or so ahead of the 4 pm check in then the chilly room could be warmer on arrival. The owners were presumably aware of the need to provide extra heat as a small thermostatic heater was plugged in, in the room when we checked in. This was not intentionally left on by us overnight !
That really is the only downside as everything else was great.
Holly Cottage is an excellent place to stop, the Chatsworth Farm shop is a couple of minutes walk and the welcoming Devonshire Arms across the road serves great food in a pub bistro style atmosphere.

Thanks so much for your positive and constructive review - it was indeed cold the weekend you stayed with us.
We have taken delivery of a large new oil filled radiator and adjusted the central heating timer which should more than do the trick!
It is only with such constructive feedback as yours that we can improve things, we were really grateful for your comments.
We were so pleased you enjoyed your stay and the excellent twighlight evening at Chatsworth.
Best wishes for Christmas

Lovely place, great location, pleasant and clean room (Green). Very tasty and generous breakfast, Sarah can definitely cook well. Close to Chatsworth and Monsal Trail. Go for a walk around the village and via Chatsworth estate, there are some stunning views. Highly recommended!

Holly Cottage has just three rooms but the welcome was as warm as the best hotel in town. The B & B location is ideal for Chatsworth, particularly the Farm Shop and the suggested 6 mile walk was very enjoyable. We stayed with friends, taking all three rooms which made it feel extra special but the Patrons made us really feel at home.

Room Tip: Only three rooms, one has twin beds

This is a great bed and breakfast in the peak district of England. It is in a beautiful little village, part of the Chatsworth properties. The owners were very helpful, but respectful of our privacy too. I liked this because I'm not always a bed and breakfast person. The Chatsworth Farm Shop is a short walk up the street. We went their several times for supper supplies after a long day of traveling about. We stayed in the blue room, very clean with a picturesque view of gardens and Ted, the cat, out the bedroom window. A couple of nights we ate at the Devonshire Arms a pub just steps from our door. Good food, Chatsworth ale and large servings, but very English in flavor. I would recommend Holly Cottage to my friends.

Room Tip: Blue room is worth the extra pounds
