This was our second visit to Holly Cottage after spotting an advertisement for it in a Peak District guide and the repeat visit was just as great as the first. Holly Cottage is based in the village of Pilsley and in the Chatsworth estate, which in itself is beautiful. The Cottage itself is next to the village Post Office which is also run by your host Sarah. The Rooms are beautiful and we have stayed in both the "Blue Room" (the larger of the two) and the "Green Room" and both are equally carefully decorated to a high quality with lovely decor and linen. Each room has drawers and a wardrobe to make yourself at home, which you immediately fell anyway when walking in. Sarah provides the perfect balance of attention without getting in your way and little touches like a selection of biscuits and drink and the addtion of extra blankets or a hot water bottle show thought for her guests.

The breakfasts are superb with huge selection of cereals and preserves, however outshining this is THE BEST cooked breakfast ever. Localy sourced bacon and sausage from the Chatsworth Farm shop and her own hens eggs provide a very filling breakfast indeed. If you did need anything else to eat the Chatsworth Farm shop is a few minutes away for a treat or two.

Opposite Holly Cottage is The Devonshire Arms, which serves an amazing Steak and Ale pudding, and provides you with a perfect venue for an evening meal. The location of Holly Cottage itself is fantastic for exploring the Peak District and you will never need to travel far to enjoy the beauty of thie area.

We enjoyed our stay so much, we've just booked again and can't wait to visit again.

Thankyou Pilsley and especially Sarah and Janette (at the pub) for such a wonderful time.

We stayed for four nights and didn't want to leave. The Devonshire Arms is a great place for dinner a pint or two and to meet the very friendly locals.

Holly Cottage was very comfortable and Sarah, her husband and Digby the dog were very nice, and left us to our own devices after a very nice breakfast.

We would love to come back one day.

Make sure you allow at least one full day for Chatsworth Estate. It was better than we ever expected!

A trip over to Castleton and Pevril Castle was also a great day out, especially as we timed it with their local medieval fete.

Love Derbyshire!

Thanks again
The Spring family.

We booked to stay at Holly Cottage for two nights, I had liked the look if it from its website. It was exactly as we expected and better. Previous reviewers commented on the smallish size of the Green room and while it was not huge, it was big enough, very well appointed and scrupulously clean. For the amount time we spent in it (to sleep basically) it was perfectly good. Facilities for hot drinks were provided, as well as homemade biscuits, hairdryer and even a wind up torch in case of emergency. Complimentary toiletries were also provided. The bathroom was smallish bit nicely done and the shower (electric) did the job but if you are used to a powerful shower you may be disappointed. Breakfast is juice, a range of cereals, toast and a range of hot food. All food served is locally sourced from the Chatsworth estate farm shop or other suppliers, and the high quality of the ingredients is obvious. The full breakfast and some toast will keep you going all day, we didn't need lunch. About 2.5 miles from Chatsworth House and with a nice (food serving) pub about 20 yards away, this is a lovely spot. You, will however, need a car to get about, this is tiny village with just one pub. Would definitely recommend; if I ran a B&B I would like it to be like this.

Holly Cottage is a charming place to stay in every respect. Breakfast - full of lovely local produce from the Chatsworth Estate - is excellent -we didn't need any lunch! The beds are comfortable and the owners charming and welcoming but not intrusive. Our stay of five days was our first taste of Derbyshire and we were bowled over by the charm and tranquility of the area's stunning countryside. Pilsley itself is one in a million, all painted in 'Chatsworth blue' and ideal for an exploration. We were so glad we chose Holly Cottage. Thank you Sarah for looking after us so very well.
