one of the nicest wedding we have ever been to. the cafe la cave was clean, friendly and the fod was wonderful. we got there early and went into the bar, restaurant. the lady bartender was so nice, she made really good drinks and showed us the house menu. when the reception started they had shrimp that was awesome and steak satay to die for. the main meal was great, past, steak and chicken with whipped potatoes and desert was ice cream and wedding cake. they even had a crepe cart for made to order crepes. we will go back with friends for diner in the restaurant soon, it was that good.

Very inviting from the outside, we stopped for early dinner, and even though we did NOT have reservations, hostess seated us promptly. Proper attire requested reads the sign at the door, but we noticed people dressed casually, yet fashionably. Our server described the specials and proceeded to constantly give good service. I had the salmon over spinach and it was done perfectly. Lobster bisque soup is delicious, AND the ambiance is excellent. Watching chateau Briand (sp?) and Steak Diane is prepared tableside is wonderful. Dessert menu is limited. Total bill with drinks and desert will run just over a hundred bucks. Enjoy the meal and ambiance!!

This is a very different place for a meal. I would recommend it more for the bar than anything else. A fun place to have a drink prior to heading over to Allstate, but not dinner.
I hear this place has been around forever, and I think the waitstaff proves that. Honestly, the waiter could barely hear us, and it was downright scary when another octogenarian, was preparing Steak Diane, with flames coming dangerously close to our hair.
The appetizers were better than the dinners. The entrees were average at best.
We really cracked up when we asked for the desert menu, and were answered with a "no" and "here's your check".
What??
Oh well.
The cave decor is unique for sure though.

With the closing of Le Titi de Paris, Le Cave is the last of the French restaurants that used to abound in the Chicago area. The Cave is small and we have only gone on weekends when it is crowded. Nevertheless the reservations are honored. Their drinks are excellent. The service is professional and efficient. They are one of the last of the restaurants to do table side preperation. The Beef Stroganoff although not on the menu is always available and a great dish as is the Steak Diane. This is a great place to go for a special occassion and they have never disappointed.

Very expensive. Some food is prepared table side. This place has been for a long long time. They are living on their reputation.
