We stopped off during the first day of our honeymoon. We didn't tour because we were on a tight budget, but we walked around the grounds and the neighborhood. Very surreal to be in this place where one of our greatest presidents grew up. We were honored to be there.

JMJ Finally took the time and effort to visit Ronald Reagan's Boyhood Home (well, one of them) in Dixon, IL. So much time and effort has been spent lovingly re-creating the former President's rented home. Ronald Reagan and his family lived here from 1920-1923. Begin the trip at the Visitors Center which is a beautiful house next door that belonged to the owner of the rental property the Reagans lived in. You can watch a short movie about the early years , the visits Ronald Reagan made in later years, and all the work that was done by a private group to preserve the home. The Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home Preservation Foundation is funded by voluntary contributions( a non-profit 501{c} organization so your donations are tax deductible) from donors. There is a $5 Preservation Fee per person and children 12 and under are admitted free when touring with a family. Group tours should be booked in advance. Free parking is available and you can also see a beautiful Model T1919 Ford(owned by the Reagan family) in the garage in the rear of the lot. A beautiful statue of Ronald Reagan is in the nearby side lot and a beautiful sitting area also. It is a historical and heart warming piece of America.

I enjoyed my visit to Ronald Reagan's boyhood home. I like old architecture and photography so it was worth a visit to me just to see the house - inside and out. As someone else posted, none of the furnitire belonged to the Reagan's, but it is period furniture.

The woodwork throughout the home is gorgeous. I love the wall paper in the bathroom on the second floor. An old car (1919?) is parked in the garage. What lools like a second garage is really a modern washroom. The home next door serves as a Welcome Center / Gift Shop. A short film is shown.

The tour was informative. The tour was $5.00
A small park like setting is adjacent and has a statue of Pres Reagan.

There is a parking lot behind the house. Street parking is not allowed for cars alongside of the house.

We were in Dixon, IL for the "Regan Run" 5K and thought it would be appropriate to see the boyhood home of Ronald Regan. My kids 10 & 14 definately did not want to go but we forced them through the tour. They were both impressed and were glad they went. The tour guide was informative and friendly and it is a must see when in Dixon. It was well worth the $5 sdmission price per adult. Dixon is also a great place to visit. Lots of restaurants, pubs and shops in this beautiful rivertown.
