“My grandmother had a house like this”

Dixon loves that Ronald Reagan lived here, and Ronald Reagan was in love with Dixon. Unfortunately, we don't learn much about how Ronald Reagan became the man that he wa. What I did like was seeing a Sears house like my grandmother lived in. If we could have a comparison of a modern house to this house, then that would be a great museum.

From the minute you hit town, flags with pictures of Reagan are on lightpoles throughout city. To see where Reagan spent several years of his life, is impressive. His home is a modest one, but shows anyone can attain the highest office in the U.S. Behind the house , in the garage, is a 1914 model t owned by Reagan's father.

I think that most people identify Ronald Reagan with California but Dixon is where he grew up and went to High School. The home where he lived from age 9-12 is the one that remains and he visited here himself when he was president, he always considered Dixon his hometown.

Allow an hour or so to see the video and take a guided tour of the house, it is worth the effort.

PROS: Quiet and unassuming visitor center and home; affordable items in the gift shop; very clean restrooms.

CONS: not much to see inside the house; minimal items were actually Reagans; our docent said the car and the furnishings were “what would have been around during Reagan’s time here."

We stopped off during the first day of our honeymoon. We didn't tour because we were on a tight budget, but we walked around the grounds and the neighborhood. Very surreal to be in this place where one of our greatest presidents grew up. We were honored to be there.
