I recently had the opportunity to stay at the Red Roof Inn in Downers Grove, IL. The room was clean and comfortable. The price was fantastic as the hotel is close to Chicago. Parking area was well lit and I felt quite safe. Great tv and internet was available. Super easy access to the interstate. I would definitely stay here again. Close to several great shopping malls as well!

We stayed here because it was closer to the VA hospital that my husband had an appointment with. The rooms were clean, bed linens were clean and the staff was very nice. The only thing missing was a coffee pot so make sure you bring one if you like your coffee in your room. Otherwise a short walk to the lobby and you have free coffee.

We also traveled with our pet and she was welcomed as well.

This was my first time in Chicago. I rented a car and didn't want to pay to park my car in a downtown hotel. So, we opted for this hotel which was about 25 minutes from Downtown. It hit the spot. We needed a hotel to sleep in and spend the rest of the day sight seeing. The hotel was clean, free coffee, close to local shopping mall and price was very reasonable. I would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a budget price, clean and doesn't mind the drive to town.

Red roof inn is the place to stay if all you care about is a decent, clean place to sleep at night. If you are staying in Downers Grove without a car, there's only 2 restaurants you can get food nearby. Olive Garden and Hooters. There are some cafes and delis across the street, but by across the street, i mean having to cross a busy, 8-lane traffic highway. Unless there are no cars coming, it's impossible to cross that highway even when the traffic lights are red because there are tons of cars turing onto the roads as well.

I stayed here for an interview at Midwestern in early February and it was about -10F outside. The rooms are cold, even though i turned the thermostat up to 80F. I still had to wear 2 sweaters, my wool coat, and scarf while inside my room.

For women, there's no hairdryers, so definitely bring your own!

Red Roof Inn was my last resort for staying in the Lombard/Downers Grove area for business. It actually turned out to be not bad for what it is.

I would say this is a hotel for people just passing through, who only need a good, budget-priced place to put their heads on their pillow for a night. I have no complaint about the room itself. The bed wasn't outstanding, but it didn't hurt my back and keep me up at night. The cable TV service was adequate.

They have unique room keys that I like. Unlike plastic credit-cards with a magnetic strip, these are more like real keys. You don't turn these keys, though. You just put the key in the slot and wait for the lock to open. The key has metal contacts instead of a magnetic strip that can wear off or demagnetize.

Good news for the Internet Set: Red Roof offers wireless internet access via T-Mobile. Bad news: you have to pay for it. You can purchase one night of service for $9.99, and I believe a month for $29.99. At least you can also use this service at places such as Starbucks, Borders, FedEx Kinko's, and some airports. I find it misleading that the Red Roof website touts their T-Mobile HotSpot service but doesn't mention that it isn't complimentary.

It's not Red Roof's fault that this stretch of Butterfield Rd. doesn't have much variety of restaurants. There is an Olive Garden and a Hooters just down from the hotel, and a CiCi's Pizza buffet across the divided highway, but there are no gas stations or convenience stores nearby. The closest convenience store is about 1.5 to 2 miles west.

Red Roof is clearly visible from Butterfield Rd., but it's somewhat hard to access. You have to get off Butterfield Rd. and onto a service road on the south side of the highway. If you exit from I-88, the entrance to the access road is actually through the entrance to Circuit City. It's quite confusing, but again, it's not Red Roof's fault.

I still prefer to stay in a Holiday Inn Express or an extended stay facility when I'm in a town on business for a few days, but I have no qualms about using a Red Roof Inn for a night. If you don't need a pool or a restaurant on premisis, you should find Red Roof to be a good value...as long as you can find the access road.

I had a JD Edwards training class to go to in Downers Grove and stayed at the Red Roof for 9 days in December 2002. I had quite a good value.
Getting to the Hotel is rather fun as you get off the tollway, have to get all the way over left, turn left get onto Butterfield, merge over 3 lanes left again, and turn left at the light to get onto the access road. There is even a sign at Butterfield and Main street that warns that it is a dangerous intersection. The amount of traffic in this area does give some ambient noise into the room. Because of the traffic you will also have to drive to go to the nearby mall in Lombard, or the stores across the street. You can however safely walk to Olive Garden or Hooters which are nearby, and on the same side of the road.

Rooms were kept clean, beds were made everyday. I would stay here again if I had another class to go to.
