I was booked into this hotel from Sunday 26th - 31 May 2013 as part of a group walking in this area. I read some of the reviews with a sinking heart as it appeared that the venue is used frequently for weddings and that noise was an issue for patrons not associated with the function. I arrived to find a wedding in progress. However, my room (105) was not affected by any noise whatsoever. The weather was rainy and we returned from our walks soaking wet and slightly dispirited but the hotel was so welcoming with lashings of hot water for soothing baths and good food that this (almost) made up for the lack of sun outside.

The staff were all very courteous and attentive - in particular in the restaurant where the service was impeccable. Attention to details like hot plates for hot food at breakfast were all apparent. My room was clean and everything I needed was provided and worked as it should. Even the switch for the bedside light was easily accessible unlike some hotels where you have several switches nearby that seem to turn on everything apart from the light you actually want to turn on.

If the location if this hotel suits you I would highly recommend it

Room Tip: No lift so if you have a lot of luggage ask for a room on the ground floor. And if there may be a we...

We returned to Hatherley Manor for one night on our 25th wedding anniversary having been there several times before. This time however on a voucher deal, wondering if this would make any difference to the way we were treated. It most certainly did not. The staff were most welcoming and reception most efficient, particularly a young lady called Sophie. We had a beautiful room, large and spacious facing the grounds and could find no fault at all. The television had full Freeview channels - unlike the usually limited channels you get in a hotel. Our deal included dinner which beautifully cooked and served and a full English breakfast the next morning which was also excellent . Hatherley is very close to Gloucester and Cheltenham and is an ideal base for exploring this area.

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor at the back overlooking the grounds. Very quite large spacious room. We n...

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Friendly and lovely reception and bar staff. Exceptionally clean rooms. Cream tea on the front lawn was delightful. Food lovely. Some of the dining room staff are a little surly, but I think that is just the way they are and their culture rather than their attitude being directed at the guests! I do think this needs addressing though as everyone else is just wonderful. Service at breakfast was just slightly chaotic I think due to a lack of supervision of staff and there being no clearly defined roles.

Overall the hotel is a lovely building in a lovely setting, a peaceful retreat and we will definitely be booking to stay again. This hotel is going to be our regular leisure retreat from our busy lives. Thank you all for a lovely time.

We stayed for two nights in standard accommodation. The room was a good size with a king size bed, and as we were staying with a toddler, a small bed had been made up for us, and there was still enough room. The bathroom had a fixed shower head over the bath. Everything was really clean. Staff were friendly and we never had to wait long for service at the bar or reception desk.

The menu for dinner had a good variety of meats / fish and vegetarian options. The quality of food and presentation / service was also very good. A great experience. We took our daughter into breakfast, where a highchair was provided. Service was buffet style, and the range of both hot and cold food was very good - fresh juice, fruits and cereals, cold meats cheeses and yoghurt. English breakfast was (relatively) fat free and tasty.

With outdoor chess and Jenga on the front lawn, and the sun shining down on us, it made for a very relaxing break.

From the warm welcome on arrival to our departure the hotel, its staff, services and food were excellent. The staff were attentive, cheerful and generally on top of their game. Well done. Clearly not all have felt the same from the reviews but we are very likely to return.

Room Tip: We did not try pool or fitness room. The suites in the older part are worth it for any stay longer...

We went to a wedding function there and stopped overnight after the reception and evening party. The hotel main building is old...17th Century I believe.. and of course listed... so there are no lifts. Lots of different stairs where you have to drag your cases to...rooms vary a lot. There are lots of nice nooks and crannies all over the building...some of the rooms are up in the rafters..the beams in the ceiling give that away. If you are expecting luxury...you will be disappointed .but it's good homely accommodation...standard rooms are a bit compact but clean and the bathroom/showers have been modernised quite a bit. Food is good...plenty to choose from.. I personally thought the bar prices were a shade on the high side. Bar snacks likewise... and £11.00 for a cream tea...per person... no thanks. Come on...lets be sensible. On the plus side... the grounds are lovely to walk around and as it's out in the sticks...it's quiet. With only 3 miles from Gloucester and 8 miles from Cheltenham its handy to tour from as well. Would I stay there again?... Probably...for a special occasion.

What hotel paints windows in rooms that are being used and a full hotel for guests to have to stay in a paint sticking room. Would never stay again. The management on duty was unhelpful and in fact very rude. I was that disappointed I sent a letter to the hotel (which I never do) but felt it called for someone to raise the issue.
