“The best restaurant in the suburbs!”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

The food is terrific. Tony, the chef is fabulous. Pat, his wife, treats you like you are family. The staff is professional and so friendly. Again, the food is some of the best you will find anywhere. Of course, the malts and milkshakes are to die for!

“Excellent food, best shakes/malts around!”
Reviewed 8 January 2012

Caters to families. A small gem of a restaurant in Elgin. Ate lunch here and finished with a delicious shake. The sandwiches are huge & can easily be shared by 2 people. Shakes are truly the best around. No one makes shakes like this anymore. They put DQ to shame! Don't leave town without trying the shakes!

“Al's consistently has excellent food and very good service, business or family.”
Reviewed 5 January 2012

This place is loaded with charm, set in a pre-1900 building, all restored, it has a relaxed atmosphere that lends itself to comfortable dining. The competence of the staff is is surprising considering their youth. The food is always excellent, freshly prepared and served hot or cold as appropriate. Whether you are having a family get together or a business meeting, Al's will be prefect. I just wish they did breakfast too.

“I could have done better”
Reviewed 3 December 2011

Ordered the chicken bruschetta sandwich and was really lookin forward to eating it. Was totally let down. If looked like a blob of melted cheese! How are going to make a chk bru sandwich and smother it with cheese! The bruschetta wasn't fresh and greens were wilted. Needs a nicer bun, fresh bruschetta and greens and finished with parm or asiago and not cheddar!

“Great Place for a Meal and Dessert”
Reviewed 26 February 2010

Al's is great. They actually have a Chef who changes the menu regularly to include monthly thematic specials. This sounds very basic, but I find it difficult to find good "non-chain" restaurants in this area of the suburbs. A man can not survive on Buffalo Wild Wings and Chili's alone.
Try a Steak, some Fish, or the Pork Tenderloin Medallions. You wont be disappointed. All the sauces and dressings are homemade and the malts are memorable. The service is also great. Al's is certainly worth a visit for lunch or dinner.
