We stayed for five days at a cabin here. It was so peaceful with privacy. The owners were so warm and welcoming and the cleaning staff were very responsive . There are great state forests to hike with well marked trails. The Garden of the Gods is am amazing place to hike and explore.

The cabins are pet friendly which is a huge plus. I definitely plan to return, hopefully in winter to enjoy the peace and solitude.

If you go in summer be sure to take plenty of bug spray!!

We are just back from 3 nights in the Eagle's retreat. After lots o cabin get aways, it was our first time in Shawnee Forest. The Rim Rock cabins are the best spot I can think off from what I have seen. You are pretty much in the middle or close by to all the places you want to check out in that area. The cabins are beautifully decorated and there is not one thing in that cabin that I can think off that may be missing in there for a guest to enjoy. Love the space in between the cabins, close enough to talk to the neighbor if I needed to, but plenty of space in between to have the individual feel. Enjoyed the packed folder with all that information, that really helped us to plan the day and not loose orientation in the woods:-) My kids enjoyed and visited all the animals every day. I am surprised we did not get one mosquito bite while out there. I personally enjoyed the wilderness from the screened in porch at night at best. Any place that is pet friendly and Dixie and Bob are super dog friendly deserves 5 stars in my book. Thank you for sharing you beautiful property with us. All was perfect. Would love to come again next year. Anja & boys

We stayed at the Bears Den Cabin a weekend in June 2013, and had a wonderful time. Dixie has thought of everything! The cabin was very clean and was stocked with all types of little extras that we may have forgotten. The beds were all very comfortable and the AC worked great. There was plenty to keep us busy right at the cabin; grilling out (gas or charcoal), campfire, horseshoes, and a sandbag game called "corn-hole" which was really fun! The location of the cabin is perfect with a short hike to Rim Rock and swimming at Pounds Hollow. Garden of the Gods is just a short drive. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Room Tip: The Bears Cabin was just big enough for two couples. Our guys are big too.

Lost count of the number of times I've stayed, but it never loses its magic. Wonderful accommodations. Super clean and well-appointed. Tons of great stuff to so in the area. I find something new everytime I visit. Great getaway, but don't take my word for it. Visit and see for yourself.

This place is magical. From the horses on the farm to the clean cabins and fresh cuts flowers on the porch. It was the perfect getaway for our 10 year anniversary. We loved it and will be back in August.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay in their Cougar Bluff Cabin in February. It is tiny, but perfect for two with a climb up a ladder to a very comfy loft. Very clean, well kept and such a friendly atmosphere! When we arrived there was an ice storm so we holed up in our adorable cabin and watched movies. We really appreciated the fact that the owner called us to be sure we were safe and sound. In the morning the melting ice made for beautiful hiking: Right across the street from Rim Rock trail, a really fun easy hike and right down the road from Garden of the Gods where the trail hiking is intersting and the wilderness hiking is limitless!
We hope to come back this summer!

We spent two nights in Deer Run cabin and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabin is private, cozy, and nicely appointed. We're hikers, so the first thing we did was walk the 1.6 mile perimeter trail. It was late afternoon and there was a coating of snow in the woods. The well-marked and well-maintained trail made for a delightful introduction to Shawnee National Forest. The next morning we walked through the nearby cemetery, crossed the highway, and walked 5 minutes to the head of the Rim Rock Trail. It was a little nippy but the trail is paved in stone, and while there was an inch of snow elsewhere, the trail was perfectly dry. Dixie had instructed us on just the right way to approach the trail, which takes you around an escarpment (rocky bluffs). We followed her directions and enjoyed an enchanting winter morning hiking through unusual rock formations and babbling streams, then on to the lake at Pounds Hollow. Not a soul on the trail besides us. After about two hours on the trail, we headed back to Deer Run for lunch. The close proximity of the cabin to the Rim Rock Trail is a big plus. That afternoon we headed over to the Garden of the Gods and saw terrain that was quite different from Rim Rock and amazing in its own way. All in all, the accessibility of those first-class hiking opportunities from Dogwood Cabins makes this an excellent choice for getting to know Shawnee National Forest. We'll be back for spring and fall, and we know just where we'd like to stay.
