On a clear day you get to see most of Lac Lemam and the Mont blanc in one breathtaking overview from the terras of this charming restaurant.

Menu is limited and good. Once of the best fondues I have had in a long time in the Geneva region.

You can call to check what the weather is like before you drive up.

Worth the drive!

Thank Kate C

My neighbours invited me to one of their favourite places. I must say that one needs people who know where they are going or a GPS guiding one through small roads waving their path uphill. It is
just over a 30 minutes drive from the Mont Blanc Bridge in Geneva but definitively worth it if one has a car.

The family-run restaurant is certainly not sophisticated, but it has its own unique barn-like feeling reminding customers that, not that long ago, this must have been a farm, and the cows nearby are still testimony to this!

I am giving La Barillette maximum points for atmosphere as I really appreciate that there is no pretense, to me this is what is nice and what makes this place special. They do not offer a huge choice of dishes, but what is offered is genuine and well prepared. And what to say of the sight - in one word: superb! The Lake Leman lies beneath and one has a beautiful panoramic view over the Alpes and majestic Mont Blanc.

My friends come here for the fondue and it certainly is lovely, amongst the best I had and is to be recommended. A real, superb, Swiss fondue without any of the touristy frou-frou. The prices are also decent, especially compared to Swiss averages.

Most people prefer to sit outside to enjoy the sun and the views. Tables outside are few and it is advised to book a table as the place is not big and it is very popular with their loyal customers.

Located about 40minutes outside Geneva, this restaurant at the top of the mountain offers some of the most spectacular views of the summit of Mont-Blanc and lake Geneva. There are several roads that lead to walking trails for the last portion, just watch out for the cow and their rather large "leave-behind."

The restaurant is nothing fancy but their fondue is exceptional! This is definitely a "must visit" while in Geneva, I highly recommend it!

The Restaurant de la Barillette (please note correct name/spellling) in perched high in the Jura with the most amazing views of Lake Leman (Geneva) and the Alps. A visit there is a must every time I am in Geneva in summer.
Built in typical Swiss chalet style, with a vast terrace (large umbrellas/parasols available on sunny days), it serves only three main courses of which the (cheese) fondu is the classic, ideally for me accompanied by a plate of viande seche and other charcuterie (taken from the starter menu). Otherwise there is an entrecote steak served with a salad and some of the best chips I have ever eaten, or Schuebling, a German-style sausage. Desserts include a large range of ice creams and ice cream coupes, fruit tarts (specials of the day) and meringues and cream. Decent wine is available by the bottle or, open, by the decilitre.
There is a children's menu including saucisse vaudois.
Service is quite good and very amiable. Prices are low for the Geneva area and especially given the view. Be warned that the limited toilet facilities are "rustic".
The food is very good but the joy of the Barillette is sitting on the terrace with the sunny panorama by day or the sparkling lights of Switzerland below and France opposite by night. In very hot weather there can be an 8 or 9 degree (C) temperature drop up there from lake level, which is a welcome relief, but also blustery winds.
The other delight of a visit is driving there up the winding mountain road through gorgeous forest scenery and past meadows with wild flowers in season and cows with bells.
It is all just so archetypically Swiss!
Do check the website for directions and be careful on the way as some roads are two way and some are one way. (Also, despite the gradients, it is popular with local cyclists, whom you may encounter wobbling up or speeding down again.) http://www.restaurant-barillette.ch/
The restaurant is not open during winter months (it would be impossible to reach it through the snow). In the summer season, there are two fixed sittings at weekends (at 12:00 and 14:00/2 p.m.) and booking is almost always essential. If you lose the telephone number, it is listed under Gingins in the local directory.
