“Quiet friendly hotel giving undisturbed night sleep.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2012 via mobile

Comfortable and quiet room. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel has a great chef who makes lovely food and serves it is massive portions! Never before have I struggled to finish a starter! The village of Rampside (or is it a suburb of Barrow?) is also lovely and quiet. All-in-all a good experience. If I was to be back in the area I would not hesitate to return to Clarke's Hotel.

Having stayed in many hotels around the world the Clarkes Hotel at Rampside is the most comfortable, welcoming and friendly of them all. The food is superb. Can't wait to go again.

Arrived on hot sunny day after spending a night in a run down hotel and found the manager in reception very friendly and helpful and for us had a room available for the 2 nights we wanted, showed us a similar room took our booking and did not even want a credit card to secure the room. Food good, view from the room wonderful and price reasonable, if in the area would definitely stay again and would recommend it highly to anyone

Room Tip: Ask for room 2 or 4 as both have excellent views

I booked this hotel by mistake, the best mistake I have ever made. I didnt want any posh or superficial hotel, I wanted somewhere I could relax with my hubby & talk and go for walks. This 3 star hotel was warm & welcoming from the start, the menus for lunch & dinner were extremely tasty using fresh products, no frozen or pre-prepared food here. Our room was number 9 on the top floor overlooking the car park & views out onto the sea. So quite was this room, bliss!!!! Nice and spacious too. Everywhere lovely & clean, needs a bit of paintwork here and there, but for us it added to the charm of the place. There is a nice easy 4 mile or so walk through to Barrow, just follow the path alongside the Concle Pub up the road.

Arrived not to get the seaview room, booked and promised. Room 15 is small for two and in need of decoration....At first really disappointed re the afore mentioned and the shower not working. Hotel was not as advertised or expected. However, the food is amazin, as are the breakfast staff and the manager. We did get some resolve to our issues and again the staff, with exception of one young man on reception and bar are incredible people......they go out of thier way to assit and make your stay a pleasurable experience. Yes we will go back but will check before that the booking is as it should be.

Thanks Thomas for all your help and can we again say the staff on the early shift during our stay are precious

We needed somewhere comfortable and classy to stay on a boat racing weekend in Barrow. I trolled the internet and found this place by accident. We arrived at 6.30 pm and the welcome was lovely, friendly and helpful and after a quick wash we went for dinner.
The restaurant is delightful, an old pub has been cleverly converted into a bistro atmosphere without losing any of the charm of a seaside village fishing hostelry.
The place is spotlessly clean and well kept and is a mixture of mod cons with a traditional quality victorian building.
The bathroom is mint clean and well equipped with shower and washbasin and toilet and lashings of hot water and generous fluffy towels.
The beds were on the orthopedic side but comfortable and nice and high, (I hate climbing up off the floor to get out of a bed as I have a disability).
There are about ten stairs to go up but I managed fine as they go round in two sections and they are not at all steep and the treads are close together with good handrails so not difficult.
The food was top quality, I had black pudding in mustard sauce and then haddock and chips and my wife had garlic mushrooms and tournedos rossini, a rare treat these days.
Wonderfully well cooked and served by a delightful local waitress who was chatty enough but not intrusive.
The owner very obviously cares and he deserves success. It was friday night and the hotel and restaurant was busy but not packed to the point of discomfort.
My only small complaint was the late night revellers as we were trying to get an early night - but we fell asleep anyway as we were tired.
In the morning the views from the window were stunning across the sea. It is a quirky place that will delight and you will want to return again. I know we are already plannin g another visit.
Full marks on this one - I almost dont want to put this report in in case we cant get a booking next time.

Stayed here a few times and am always happy with the reception and warmth given by the staff. I have stayed in a few of the rooms and never had any problem with them, they are roomy, comftable and clean (some have an excellent view over morecambe bay, with blackpool tower in the distance). the food is excellent and bar is warm and welcoming (I like quiet villiage bars). the only point is its not in Barrow, but is worth the stay.
