We stayed here for New Year's Eve (2013). The meal in the restaurant was excellent, good quality ingredients and beautifully served. There was a lovely atmosphere for the evening with a piper, who braved the elements to pipe people in, mulled wine and music and dancing. I believe there were also fireworks but we had retired to our warm, comfortable room to welcome in the New Year with coffee in the room and a brandy from the bar. Wonderful. Excellent value and thoroughly enjoyable. Thanks to everyone at the Clarke's.

Stayed here for two nights on business. Business policy is to book double rooms for single occupancy to allow us to work in our rooms when required. Found myself booked into a tiny single room with no window other than a skylight above the bed, tiny wardrobe and an ancient, almost unwatchable, TV. No room to work. When I asked to be moved, the staff did their best but the hotel was full that night so I had to put up with it. The second night they moved me to a perfectly acceptable double room with plenty of desk space and a modern flat screen TV. The hotel is in a pleasant location on the edge of Morcambe Bay and some rooms must have excellent sea views (neither of mine did!). It is also on the edge of a housing estate on a minor road so is very quiet. It is almost a bit too quiet as there is little else to do within walking distance. Fortunatley, the restaurant offers a good choice of food of reasonable standard (certainly not the best in the area but by no means the worst) and the bar had a nice ale on tap. On both nights, the bar and restaurant were almost empty. Service was good and the staff were friendly.

In general, the hotel did not meet my expectations. The decor is tired - my double room had obviously had a pet left in it at some point as the inside of the bedroom door had been scratched bare at the bottom. In both rooms, it was impossible to adjust the temperature. Nomally I am too hot in hotels but I was there the night of the storm surge so the very high winds whistled through even the tiniest gap and kept me cool. By contrast, there was no heating in the bathroom and with a ceramic tiled floor it was pretty chilly! The biggest problem was the lack of a reliable mobile phone signal and the free WiFi which seemed unable to cope if more than one person was logged on. The staff were happy to book taxis but this didin't really compensate. Loss of communications would be fine if one was on holiday but it's no fun when on business.

I stayed just before Christmas and they had made an effort with the decorations. However, one of the Christmas trees was positoned on a bend in the stairs (there is no lift) and it was almost impossible to get past with a suitcase without knocking off some of the decorations. Heaven knows what the Health & Safety people would have to say!

All in all, a very 'average' experience. I would not stay there again as a first choice but would not refuse it if the other decent hotels in the vicinity were full. If the owners could sort out the phone signal (there are things that can be done by the hotel themselves) and put in a decent Wifi system (definately something the hotel could do itself) together with a bit of a spruce up then it could be a very nice little hotel.

Hotel in a nice quiet location, the room was clean, tidy & spacious and had a great view. The staff were helpful & friendly and the food was excellent. You need a car to get around but their are some good walks ( one to Roa Island over the causeway ) The upgrade to a room with a sea view was well worth the extra money.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of the two front rooms

Was recommended to the Clarke's about 30 years ago and finally got round to going with my wife for our anniversary. Was very favourably impressed. Well appointed room, friendly and competent staff and excellent food, what more could one want? Nothing if you are content with its secluded location.

Room Tip: A sea view is worth paying for although the sea is usually out of sight without binoculars

what a delight to stay in such a lovely place . staff friendly , clean rooms, the view looking over the sea was just lovely . breakfast was lovely. the only thing missing i felt was that you didn't meet the owners as it would be nice to thank them personally, but that is just a small thing really. you will need a car if you like to see the towns close by.
