My adult daughter and I have been coming for several years to the Steamboat House and we won't stay anywhere else in Galena! To begin with, the hosts are fabulous. When you stay in a B&B, so much of your stay depends on the hosts and the atmosphere they create. Char and Glenn are exceptional at creating an environment where you feel like part of the family. They go out of their way to make guests feel comfortable and cared for. They are constantly looking toward the comfort of their guests, from the details of the amenities to the tips and suggestions they give about the town. Breakfast is fantastic, well-thought out and delicious. Char has a beautiful array of china and each morning, you will see a different and delightfully prepared table and linens waiting for you. "Wine time" is every day at 5:00 pm and is something all guests look forward to with cheese, crackers, and different wines. The rooms of the house have been beautifully appointed with the guest's use and comfort in mind. Amenities include a pool table, DVD library, grand piano, outdoor gardens, and DVD players, private bathrooms, and built in blow dryers in each room. The location is the best of all the B&B's because it is the closest walking distance to Main Street shops and restaurants. Each of the 5 guest rooms and all of the sitting rooms are individually and tastefully prepared to surprise and delight their guests. Beautiful home, wonderful inkeepers. Why would we stay anywhere else?

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Steamboat, the weekend of Feb. 15th. The hosts made us feel at home. The room was very comfortable, and beautifully decorated. The breakfasts were absolutely out of these world. And the fact that all the guests ate at the same time and at the same table made the meal seem more like a family get together. The evening wine and cheese gathering was also a nice touch. We will definately return to the Steamboat House.

My husband and I frequent Bed and Breakfasts quite often and our stay here was wonderful! Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the owner Glen and given a tour of the beautiful house (the pictures on line do not due the house justice). The house is classy, impeccably clean, well maintained, warm and inviting. The owners are not only kind and personable, but love their home/job which is evident by their charm and welcoming attitude. The location is great-blocks away from the main drag through downtown. The bed was comfortable, the fireplace was romantic (although we could have done without the timer) and the room was spacious. The shower was a tad small, but the bathroom was fully stocked (lotion, shampoo, face cloths), extremely clean and well maintained. Breakfast was wonderful and the added touch of afternoon wine and cheese in the parlor, hot chocolate or tea in the evening, and fresh coffee in the morning-both just steps outside our room-was great. The owners Glen and Char were great to chat with, but also gave you privacy if you so wished. If you are looking for a nice (and romantic) and relaxing place to get away I would definitely recommend The Steamboat House!

Room Tip: All the rooms looked nice. We had a room that faced the front of the house and it overlooked the front yard towards downtown so it was a lovely view.

This is a wonderful period style bed and breakfast, if you love antiques then this would be a great place for you to stay.
We really enjoyed Glen and Char, they were very informative about the area and had some great stories to tell about the house's history.
The one wish we have for our next stay, and, yes we WILL be back is that they would provide a healthy option (fruite, granola, ect) along with the wonderful home cooked/baked options they provide (don't mistake anything the breakfast was wonderful).

This is a great place to stay in Galena, Il
