“Service was horrible. We ordered a water...”
Reviewed 8 October 2010

Service was horrible. We ordered a water and diet coke and they brought us the wrong drinks twice. Just sad. It doesn't look like any of the four servers are responsible for certain tables. Whoever sees you may or may not help you. The food was average. We won't come back again.

“Average tavern”
Reviewed 26 July 2010

Me and my wife stopped here for lunch. The blue cheese soup was very good, the service was average. We had to remind our waitress several times that we would like glasses for our beers. I ordered a Beef Au Jus, cup that they brought the broth in was too small to dip the sandwich in. I had to try to pour it on top. It tasted very salty. We were not appalled but not pleased either with the experience.

“Nice atmosphere, friendly staff”
Reviewed 26 January 2010

We and another couple stopped for a drink and a snack at the Green Street Tavern. We were shopping and sightseeing in Galena, and wanted something to tide us over until dinner. The venue leans more toward bar than restaurant; the adjacent DeSoto House Hotel features two other dining options, Stacie, our waitress, was very friendly and efficient. The lunch menu primarily featured bar-type appetizers, sandwiches and soup. We ordered the "wings & things" appetizer combo and the supreme mnachos- the latter made with flour tortilla chips. Both selections were fine, but nothing special in our opinion(s). However, the Bloody Marys (one couple) and Irish coffees (the other) were pretty darn good- LOL. The historic tavern has a nice pub feel.

“Terrible Service”
Reviewed 10 November 2009

Can;t rate the food, cause we never got served. Nov., 7 we visited Galena. Read good reviews on the food, When we got there, we first stood there for about 5 min. until i asked do we seat ourselves, waitress said yes, only 2 tables available both were dirty. Nobody came to clean them, nobody came to give us menus. We sat there for 15 min. until we said the heck with this, this is terrible., and got up and left. Very unorganized, and very disappointing..

“Would definitely go back”
Reviewed 5 October 2009

The Green Street Tavern is connected to the DeSoto House Hotel on Main Street in Galena. My girlfriends and I stopped in for lunch on a Thursday while on a shopping trip to Galena. When you walk into the Green Street Tavern entrance on Main Street, you enter the bar which has seating for dining but there is a separate diningroom in the back. The lunch menu had a lot of choices. Their homemade bleu cheese soup was delicious and the server gave us copies of the recipe when we commented on it.. The reuben sandwich and the chicken and strawberry mixed green salad were also really good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. I would definitely go back again.
