We stayed here for a quick getaway and change of pace! Nice hotel, quiet, great location; close to downtown Galena. Plenty of shopping in town and the hotel offered a nice restaurant where we ate dinner; complimentary breakfast was ok. Friendly staff!

Room Tip: Would not recommend paying extra for the view from back rooms. We stayed in a room on 3rd floor fac...

We stayed here three nights in June and had a wonderful stay. The first two nights we stayed in a King Traditional Street View room. We requested a room close to the elevator and were given a third floor room just off the elevator. It was a basic hotel room with a view of the parking lot, it did have a refrigerator and coffee maker. We decided we would like to stay an additional night but when we requested this we were told someone had reserved this room, but we could move across the hall to a King Plus Valley View. We were very pleased with the second room, it did cost more but was definitely worth it. It was much larger with a sofa and nice sitting area. The view was of the back parking lot but also a nice view of the Galena countryside.
The hotel is built on a hill side. When you enter the building you are on the second floor. The lower floor is where the pool is and the rooms on this floor appear to have small walk out patios.
The lobby and other public areas are lovely. We stayed during the week and enjoyed the continental breakfast, the highlight being the wonderful scones. You can have a breakfast basket delivered to your room or dine in the lobby or any of the public areas.
We ate at the attached restaurant twice and both the service and food were very good.

My BFF and I stayed at The Irish Cottage Boutique Hotel in early July 2014 on a girls getaway.

Ireland is one of my favorite travel destinations and while you won't mistake this place for the real thing, the effect is convincing enough to tide you over until your next visit to the Emerald Isle! Love how each guest room is named after a county in Ireland, and the care that's been taken to decorate with Irish art and artifacts throughout is charming and touching. Rooms are standard-issue hotel with all of the expected amenities and provided a very comfortable respite from sightseeing in the area.

We particularly loved the lounge and library area overlooking "the glen". Very cozy and comfortable. If you're staying over a weekend, be sure to enjoy the live music in the restaurant. The musician is Irish and offers a repertoire spanning Van Morrison to trad -- a real treat, and we enjoyed lingering into the evening. Our waitress was very helpful in offering food and drink selections and was extremely friendly and convivial. We met her again the next morning when we were checking out, only this time, she was in her "business garb" behind the front desk. We wondered if perhaps she might be one of the owners of the hotel (at the very least, the hotel manager) and thought how nice it was that she enjoys "keeping it real" by also working in the restaurant from time to time.

*DO NOT MISS THE HOT BREAKFAST ON WEEKENDS!!!* Normally, I skip the traditional carb-laden offerings at hotels and just go for coffee, but THIS.....oh, this breakfast. I thought perhaps overnight my dreams of Ireland had transported me to a cozy bed-and-breakfast, such was the quality and deliciousness set before me. Mmmmmm....you'll see what I mean!

Would highly recommend to anyone traveling in the area!

Room Tip: Ask for a south-facing room for views over the rolling Illinois countryside! North rooms face the hi...

We just stayed at this hotel this weekend, and we were very happy with it. It's cute, quaint, and most importantly to us, very clean. The staff was friendly as well. The hotel was about a mile from Galena's Main Street, which was great, nice & close. Our ONLY gripe about our stay was that the pillows were horrible. They were uncomfortably soft, so much so that when you put your head down, you were pretty much laying on the mattress. We requested more from room service and ended up with a total of 7 pillows on our bed, and it didn't make a difference. We didn't see the pool so I can't comment on it. The food was pretty good at Frank O'Dowd's, especially the stuffed mushrooms. Delicious! The complimentary breakfast every morning was nice, too. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone and we would definitely stay here again, just bring your own pillows ;-)

Five couples came to Galena for a fun few days. When we checked into
The Irish Cottage, we mentioned that we were there to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of two of the couples we were meeting. Immediately they upgraded these two rooms for the anniversary couples. What a wonderful thing for them to do.
Everything about this hotel was excellent in every way.

Location is great - very close to downtown shops. Room was very pleasant and the pub was a pleasant place to go for some entertainment and a beverage. I cannot compare to any of the other hotels in the area as this was our first visit to Galena, but I would certainly consider staying here again.

Clean rooms, helpful and courteous staff. Restaurant has good food, especially liked the shepherd's pie. The continental breakfast is very nice. Generally, it was an unexciting and somewhat uninteresting visit. The atmosphere seems Irish, or English, or Scottish, French, etc. If you want a distinctly and noticeably Irish experience, you really won't find it here. It's a just nice hotel with some Irish edges. Restaurant isn't always open when you'd like it to be, but there are other places nearby. Don't avoid this hotel, but do keep your expectations set to "moderate."

Room Tip: Lower floor rooms can be near the pool.
