“We'd go back!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

We stayed 4 nights in mid-August, in Sara's Room, & had a very pleasant stay. When Wendy gave us the tour & brought us to our room, I was thrilled to see a fainting couch! Everything was just right - enough closet & dresser space to unpack our clothes, enough seating to read, roomy bathroom (altho' we never used the bathtub, it was available). The big bed was a little high for this short woman, but an authentic step stool was provided. Lounging space just outside the room on the porch, offered lots of cushioned, wicker furniture. The first floor parlor was also very cozy for reading on the morning we had rain - elegant and comfortable. There was also wifi & tv & A/C. The house decor overall was fabulous! Enough ferns & lace for the most ardent Victoriana fan. But the major achievement was breakfast! Each day, Wendi created a very nice gourmet breakfast. Served on china with linens, flatware & glasses in the elegant dining room ... not a plastic or disposable in sight! It was a little expensive, but worth it. I had "shopped" websites before making my reservation and was not a bit disappointed in our choice. In fact, I was glad. Thanks, Wendy. p.s. a fainting couch is every bit as comfy as it looks. :)

Room Tip: Our room had external access, via the porch. Did not have to go through the house to get home to bed...

The room was nice, but we shared it with spiders and a few beetles. The room must have sat vacant and no one walked through before we came. Spider webs in the shower, around the room and bathroom were bothersome. The bed was disappointing, and the owner stated it was a queen bed, although it felt small and didn't provide the best nights rest.

We didn't stay for breakfast, since it wasn't being served until 9 am and coffee was available until 8 am. We had been up since about 6 am due to the bed and the run in with the bugs.

For $260 we felt that this was definitely not worth it..

Here at the Annie Wiggins we keep a spotlessly clean house. Occaisionally, a bug has been known to come in, who hasn't occaisionally found a spider or iinsect in their home? I prefer to remove the insects with vacumn or tissue rather than strong insecticides in sleeping rooms. If this person had informed me, I would have happily removed the spider and beetle.
The bed is a Queen-sized bed, inspite of this guests insistance of it being smaller. Annie Wiggins is known for comphy beds!

As it was our first trip to galena, my girlfriend and I were didn't know what to expect with the other mixed reviews. Wendi was waiting for us as we arrived and gave us a brief tour. We stayed in the Sarah room which was great! The fireplace warms the room perfectly, the room is well kept, and a nice new clean shower got us ready for each day. I will recommend and return!

Poised on the edge of downtown Galena, The Annie Wiggins Guest House greets visitors with a wink to the past and a smile. Its purple and white columned facade towers over you as your eye glimpses the hanging wooden sign that, if one is lucky, reads "vacancy" as opposed to "plum full."

The proprietress often greets her guests in Civil War era garb as she prepares for her next ghost tour at the cemetery down the way. As you enter, creeking dark wood floors and red velvet drapes award the senses with an undeniable feeling of comfort and charm. While the rooms are small, the spacious tub invites guests to a luxurious soak while sipping a glass of recently purchased merlot from a local winery.

If the discerning B&B traveler is not yet convinced, the sumptuous breakfast will certainly take care of that. Beyond traditional breakfast fare, the feast offered to guests consists of cinnamon-swirl, orange-glazed french toast, champagne mimosa, sausage or bacon, and fresh fruit. Needless to say, after this breakfast guests feel pampered and ready to face the day.

In essence, The Annie Wiggins does not disappoint. If you are looking for a quick weekend getaway, head to Galena, Illinois where you will enjoy a walk through history, cozy quarters, and excellent food!

We really enjoyed our stay at the annie wiggins. Would have probably been a 5 star, however the wall mount tv is ridiculously small, like 12 inches. Relaxing in the tub to watch a movie was great, but she needs to get bigger updated tvs. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay at this well-kept house with an incredible breakfast.

We came into Galena that evening and stopped by the tourist center by the railroad tracks. We started calling down the B&B listings alphabetically and Annie Wiggins was at the top. The room was small but comfortable. The price was a bargain. The one thing I would change would be to set a temperature for the room rather than turn the heater on and off. The breakfast was spectacular. My first time having crab for breakfast was awesome! It was walking distance to the down town and had a wonderful view of the town.

We have just returned from yet another stay at Annie Wiggins Guest House! This is the 4th time we've stayed and we love it more each time! When we arrived, the innkeeper, Wendy, and 2 of her good friends were decorating the House for Christmas and it was so beautiful, cozy and inviting! The tree in the Victorian parlour is magnificent and beautiful garland and lights on the fireplace and on the staircase! It was so exciting and festive! We stayed in Annabella's room which was lovely with a comfy queen sized bed, soaking tub for 2, fireplace, and a big bathroom! Wendy makes you feel right at home the minute she greets you at the front door. She's a wonderful innkeeper! There was lots of laughter our entire stay! The breakfasts were delicious, also! Come visit Miss Annie (Wendy). I know you'll love her and the Annie Wiggins Guest House. Wendy and her husband, Bill, also own the beautiful Ryan Mansion. You have to see it to believe it on how grand and elegant it is. Another wonderful place to stay!
