“Don't Miss the Dinner”
Reviewed 29 October 2007

The hotel is no-expense-spared luxurious and the location and views are among the loveliest in the area.

But the food! Dinner was an amazing taste experience and astonishing value. As good as Charlie Trotter's and with more personal attention, the seven courses were beautiful and intriguing and tasty. We are racing right back up to dine again.

A few weeks ago we visited the Goldmoor Inn in Galena, Illinois, where we spent the night in a beautifully decorated room with a gorgeous view of the surrounding countryside. The room had a jacuzi, a kitchenette with drinks in the refrigerator, a large bathroom with a heated bath towel bar and a very comfortable, king size bed with sheets as soft as satin. There were many more amenities that would take too much time to list.

We enjoyed a 7-course meal, which was done to perfection. Not only was it a delicious meal, but it was artistically presented. The dinner was prepared before our eyes as we sat at a large dining table in the kitchen. The chefs were available for questions we may have had about the dishes we were served.
The wines served with the meal were a wonderful compliment to our dinner. The meal was truly a gastronomical delight!

We will never forget our stay at the Goldmoor Inn. It was truly a
fantastic experience. We look forward to returning in the future and we recommend it to anyone looking for a way to spoil themselves.

Wife and I visited the Goldmoor in early August and had a great experience. We had never been to a "bed and breakfast" and were a little uncomfortable staying in someone's house or something. We were really looking for a nice hotel and this was a PERFECT fit!

We stayed in the Turret room which was excellent. Room was brand new and still had a little smell of new carpet and fresh paint.
The staff was excellent: helpful, friendly, but kept things moving at check-in / out. We had breakfast in our room both days and food was very good.

They also have little touches that make for a good experience. Some examples: Personalized daily weather forecast, pop/juice provided in room, cookies at night, nice mountain bikes (free).

About the only thing we didn't like is that the resort is a little off the beaten path. It's a 7-8mile drive down a windy country road.. not terrible, but a little hard to drive late at night.

I would recommend this facility to anyone.

Our group consisted of 4 women gathering to celebrate a retirement. We chose the Goldmoor because of its location, description and the opportunity to spend a day in the kitchen (see Restaurant review).. The inn was perfect for our purpose: superbly appointed rooms, secluded surroundings, friendly staff and proximity to Galena for entertainment. We had a delightful time and strongly recommend the inn to anyone seeking privacy and elegance.

Great personal attention from first contact, to making special arrangements for the group. Each staff member gave that personal touch all the way through check out.

  • Liked — Quality of rooms and staff.
  • Disliked — Road getting there, they had just tarred and chipped the road.

We recently stayed at the Goldmoor for 3 days in the Mississippi Suite. What a great experience! The room was huge with its own private screened in patio with a wonderful view of the river. Amenities included a REAL coffeepot (not the typical hotel fare), small refrigerator, sink, and microwave in the seperate kitchen as well as the large television with A LOT of channels- again not just your typical hotel channels. We also really enjoyed the gourmet breakfast that you can have in the restaurant or in your room on your small table overlooking the river (at least in this room). The hotel even allowed all phone calls including long distance for free - a great touch which we didn't take advantage of. All of the staff were also great - happily met all of our needs and were very personable. One note: neither the brochure nor the website does this place justice - the rooms are much nicer than they appear and the grounds are very nice.

We celebrated our anniversary at this outstanding romantic spot. A short drive from Galena on a lovely picturesque spot by the Mississippi, we experienced a large private room with a double whirlpool, a refrigerator stocked with complimentary water and juices, coffee maker and fresh cookies. There are cottages with private screened in porches or these new rooms that have a royal theme (ours was the King Arthur room) that have a warm regal quality.....And Pat and Jim know how to treat you and spoil you with the best of everything. You can have breakfast delivered to your room and enjoy sitting with your private view or eat in the inn with other guests at your convenience. There is a gathering in the afternoon for guests that was such a great way to meet and greet. Also......do make reservations for the 7 course meal....it is outstanding; meet the chefs and also watch how they prepare the foods. This will not disappoint....why go into Chicago and put up with the traffic, pay for room, parking, when you can trip to Galena, shop around town, golf, ski ( Chestnut Ski area is very close to the Goldmoor), and be pampered and treated like royalty!!
