We recently returned from another great stay at Hawk Valley. We stayed in the main house (Swan Lake room & the kids in the Woodlands room). The rest of our group was out in two of the cabins. The property was a lovely winter wonderland. Something for everyone - sledding hill and snow shoe hikes for the adventurous, beautiful wooden puzzles to challenge the mind and comfy chairs for relaxing/reading/watching the sledding crew. Jane's breakfasts are still some of the best food in Galena. The baked french toast, egg casserole, pecan rolls, etc - let me just say there is no need to eat until dinner. This was our first winter visit as a family and it was easily as wonderful as the summer trips have been.

My girlfriend and I stay about once or twice a year and plan to return in the future. The cottages are wonderful and owners are the best. Breakfast is always wonderful. The perfect place for a true get-a-way from the norm...

We love Hawk Valley just outside of Galena; it is relaxing and lets us refresh & recharge. We have stayed in both the cottages & in the house and we like them both though the cottages do offer that extra level of privacy. The accommodations and service are great but it’s the little things that sets this place apart. A highlight each day is the delicious & full breakfast (enough that no one leaves hungry) and talking to the other B&B guests. I’m always surprised at the number of repeat customers (like we are) and how many say they wanted to stay right in Galena but for some reason went to Hawk Valley and now that’s where they always stay. It’s just 10 minutes to Galena and there is so much more you can do at Hawk Valley that you cannot get in town. With this visit being in the winter, we happened to be there when there was about 2 feet of snow on the ground. Jane, the innkeeper, had snow shoes so we hiked around the property one morning. There was a rafter of 40-50 wild turkeys that were in some corn fields adjacent to the B&B. Of course, we could not get too close before they flew away into the nearby woods. The other morning we went walking along the road and could see a deer bounding through the deep snow, the grace was beautiful to watch. Another guest went for a morning run along the road. In the common area in the house, Jane had a lovely wood puzzle that we helped with. Jane always has suggestions for interesting local excursions besides downtown Galena. Once Jane had us go to Shullsburg, WI and we found a local cheese shop; now my wife makes a stop there every visit. However, the highlight was our two daughters sledding right on the property with their cousins (see pictures). These are some of the things that keep us coming back to Hawk Valley. We highly recommend it.

We spent two nights at Hawk Valley, in the Swan Lake room, and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The amenities were welcoming and completely comfortable, and our hostess Jane was just as nice and friendly and helpful as she could be. Her breakfasts were elaborate and wonderful, and the grounds are beautiful. We would have liked to spend more time exploring the property, but our days were spent very busily in nearby Galena. However, our room at Hawk Valley was a relaxing place to return to after long days of shopping and touring the town. I'm very grateful to Jane for her hospitality, and to my girlfriend, who booked the trip and our accomodations for us.

I have visited Galena several times, but this was my first visit to Hawk Valley B&B.
First, the owner Jane is an angel. She is so sweet and accommodating and makes a fantastic breakfast! Seriously, I wanted to take her home with us.
We stayed in the "somerset" cottage and we kept calling it "our little home." It was so cozy and clean. There was a nice living area with a couch and tv and a kitchen with a microwave, fridge, and coffee maker. The bathroom was a nice size with a large whirlpool tub. There was a bedroom with a comfortable king size bed as well. The best part of our little cottage was the view! It was STUNNING. This place is in the country (about fifteen minutes outside of town) with rolling hills surrounding it. Fortunately, for us, it had snowed quite a bit so the trees and landscape were glowing white. There is a lot of wildlife to see as well. We did not see any deer, but we saw their hoof prints in the snow.
This place will always have a special place in my heart because my (now) Fiance proposed to me in our little cottage. There is no where else on this earth I would have preferred to spend the most romantic moment of my life.
I will definitely return to Hawk Valley B&B in the future. If you want a nice, clean, quiet, romantic "home away from home," this is the place! Look no further.

My husband and I loved Hawk Valley Retreat! We stayed in one of the cottages and it was exactly what we were looking for. Hawk Valley is a great place to stay if you are looking for a quiet place to just sit back and relax in between of going to downtown Galena, which is not a far drive. The breakfast every morning was outstanding!! We will definitely be going back.

If you like a country setting and want some peace and quiet this is the place! About 10 minutes from downtown Galena, easy drive. Hosts were wonderful, as was breakfast and the rooms. Nothing but great things to say about the entire visit!
