We were visiting Galesburg and noticed the Packinghouse Restaurant, near the Amtrak station. True to its name, this converted packinghouse still has the overhead tracks, cooling system, scales, controlls and heavy doors from its original use. Dinner was delicious with a substantial salad bar, cinnamon buns as well as yeast rolls. The porkchops with apples were tthick, asty and tender. Steak was good also, but porkchops was better. The waitress was very pleasant and the manager went out of his way to tell us the history of the building.

The restaurant, an old packing plant. Front door was a cooler door, the ceiling with refrigeration coils and the building was next to the railroad tracks. Even though the restaurant the is a block from the track, you could not hear or feel the trains. The prime rib sandwich was large enough for two to share. The meat was a little on the salty side. The French fries were great. There was a coating which kept the fries crispy and tasty. The special pork loin dinner was scrumptious and filling. To top off our meal free rolls and cinnamon rolls were provide. Wait staff was very cordially and knowledgable.

My friends and I ate at The Packinghouse while I was visiting Galesburg. They ordered the petite filet mignon and I had the queen cut of prime rib. Our steaks were all done to perfection and seasoned nicely. They have a nice salad bar and the place is noted for its cinnamon rolls (very good - especially with warm butter on 'em). The portions are very generous. Maddie was our server, and she did a nice job of explaining the menu/specials and making sure we had what we needed. This was a good choice. No dessert on this occasion.

The restaurant is in an old packinghouse, so some of the doors are to old meat lockers, and the refrigerant tubing still hangs from the ceiling. Brick walls and hardwood floors with nice lighting make for a nice atmosphere.

It's across the street from the Galesburg Railroad Museum.

Ended up here before boarding a train. Our waitress was amazing and packed us with some extra cinnamon rolls for the train ride home! The salad bar was clean and had a nice variety, and the soups were fantastic. Our actual lunches were just as good, and the prices are pretty decent too.

We were visiting Galesburg doing some shopping and was getting hungry so we decided on trying The Packi ghouse. I just loved the entrance and the inside was unbelievable. The atmosphere was wonderful as well
as the staff. We decided on the Chicken Marsala. Oh WOW! It practically melted in our mouths. Full salad bar was included. We will be back to try something different. Kuddos to the chef!
