We had not planned to stay in this hotel but the villa that we had booked, just a mile or so from San Miguel de Salinas, sharing with another couple who are friends, had major problems with the water supply so we were forced to find alternative accommodation at short notice.
The owner of the villa that we had rented tried to find an altenative villa but when this was unsuccesful he recommended the Hotel Golf Campoamor. We manged to get an upgrade to a "Junior Suite" at the same rate as a double room so decided to stay for the last 6 days of our holiday.
The rooms were very clean and quite spacious but somewhat lacking in comfortable furnishings. There was a small fridge but this was stocked with drinks supplied by the hotel at the usual high prices. There were absolutely no facilities for making tea or coffee in the room which was a big drawback and not worthy of a hotel of this standard.
We had breakfast each morning, included in the room cost, and found this to be adequate if not up to a 4 star standard. There were two small DIY coffee machines which were inadequate for the number of people using the dining room and were constantly running out of water.
It soon became evident that the majority of guests were on a short stay visit to view property in the area, sponsored by Parador Properties and their reps commandeered most of the tables in the lounge and/or bar patio to give their "speil" their prospective cleints.
We did not eat any evening meals at the hotel, the prices were on the high side, and we used our hire car to travel in to San Miguel where there are a couple of decent and modestly priced restaurants. "The Market" is run by Brits and offered a good variety of reasonably priced dishes. "La Marquesa" is a Spanish run establishment which offered a wide variety of very inexpensive dishes and wines and the service was excellent.
In addition to the 18 golf course, the Campoamor hotel boasts a wide range of sports facilities, including indoor and outdoor pools, a gymnasium and 2 football pitches. However you have to pay extra for most of these albeit there is a discount for hotel guests. The outdoor pool was out of use during our stay and we considered a charge of 27 Euros for 2 hours in the indoor pool was far too much. We had a round of 18 holes on the Campoamor golf course for 40 Euros which was a fair price for a course which was well kept and quite challenging. However, there were water sprinklers all over the place and they often came on without warning during the round which was somewhat annoying.
Overall we were not impressed by this hotel and would not stay there again. Looking at the reviews for the La Zenia hotel, which is a few miles away on the coast this would seem to be a better bet if you are looking for a hotel in this area.
