This was our second time to Sogndalstrand, and it was just as perfect as last time (4 years ago). Summertime makes the few narrow streets lively and the people who live there are very friendly, if you want to chat they will tell you a story or two! The old historic buildings are very well kept. There is also a few cozy shops with local products and art. We got the same room as last time (second floor in the Kommunehuset) facing the street. It's a suite/room with a large bedroom/living room, bathroom and a small kitchen. Clean, comfy and nice. The beds are really great and we had a good night sleep, even though the day temperature had been very high (30 C) and it was still warm late in the evening. There is no AC, but with the windows open the sea breeze kept the nightly temperature at a comfortable level inside the bedroom! It's a corner room with windows on two sides.
We had lunch in the garden outside the hotel. Just wonderful! Try the salmon sandwich or the fish soup. Yummy! We also had a bottle of chilled white wine and enjoyed our relaxing time just looking at the buildings around us and talking about the history of the place. We learned even more before dinner when one of the owners offered us and the other guests some champagne on the house, and told us about how it all started for her and her husband, and how the place had been way back. A great lady with lots of humor!
Afterward we had dinner in the restaurant and had a really good tasting experience, with local products and great service. The breakfast the next day was just as perfect. I only wished we could have stayed for an extra day, but we had to go on to reach our next goal further up the coast!
