“We miss the Beach BBQ... but still ok”
Review of Solleric

My wife & i have visited the Solleric beach cafe/restaurant several times in recent years and have always enjoyed eating there...

It is located down on the beach next another beach cafe and below the Agapanto restaurant and close to Citric, Mar Bell and Marina hotels...

We again visited Port Soller at the start of September and were really looking forward to treating ourselves to the 'famous' Argentine BBQ meals that run on Friday nights at Solleric; so popped down on Friday night of September 8th...

We were delighted to see the Argentinian Meat & Fish Nights still on and took our chairs at a beach side table, with the sand literally at our feet, with a beautiful view across the bay and ordered our favourite meal of last year...

I again chose the meat version with Argentinian meat for 30 euros where you get a starter of Argentine Meat Pie, followed by main course of 300 grs of Argentinian steak, large chorizo sausage plus chips & salad, followed by a home made cake as dessert - i chose chocolate cake...

There is an alternative meat menu for 28 euros where you substitute the 300g Argentine beef for 500 grs Txuleton beef...

My wife had the fish choice for 22 euros... here she had a starter of Cheese & Onion Argentine Pie (but as they had run out of Cheese & Onion she had the meat pie like myself - more like a small pasty), followed by a whole Seabass & King Prawns with chips & salad, then a dessert of home made cake - she chose almond cake...

There was two substitute fish menus - one with dorada (a type of Sea Bream) instead of seabass for 20 euros, or one with John Dorey instead of seabass for 28 euros...

We sat back and awaited our orders a little perplexed where the BBQ was as last year the lady who owns the cafe and takes your orders had a large BBQ out front on the beach where her husband cooked the meat & fish as you watched...

A bit later our food materialised and we were slightly disappointed to find it had been cooked inside the restaurant (one assumes grilled in pan or cooked in oven; as no BBQ inside)... also despite the meat and fish being good portions, you only received a handful of chips (french fries style) & salad on your plates...

Now last year your meat/fish came to your table on a mini BBQ stand for effect with two large plates - one full of chips (french fries) and one of salad... hence appears to have cut back drastically on the chips & salad, and i would have liked more chips with my beef...

However, are main issue was it was not from the BBQ... on closer inspection of the menu it was our misunderstanding as it is now advertised as 'Argentinian Nights' and not 'Argentinian BBQ' of previous years... that said, the food was delicious...

If we had known it was not the 'BBQ menu' of last year we would have ordered something different; as before we've had great fish, ribs, paellas, etc here...

We washed our meals down with a couple of drinks (me - a mojito & large beer, my wife a bellini & a glass of cava)... plus some water... our total bill came to just over 60 euros which was a good price for what we had eaten...

Hence the food and prices are very good here and you will also enjoy the beach side setting... BUT how we miss the 'famous beach side Argentinian BBQ' and would have also prefered more chips (similar to last year)...

The service was a bit average on this visit... the restaurant was busy so the lady who owns it was doing here best with orders etc but the two lads supporting her were little help... we had to chase a couple of drinks orders... but it was ok...

Overrall, the food is still very good as is the price and setting, but the fact i would have preferred more chips and the service was not it's usual high standard means i've marked this 4 out of 5 (whereas last year i marked 5 out of 5)...

Please bring back the lovely BBQs!!!

We will try the Solleric again in the future and would recommend this place to others; as the food is very good and the setting perfect down on the beach...

We only had drinks and nibbles here , a lovely pina colada and cold beer and nice crisps , waitress was really nice so we popped in here quite often as she made us feel welcome , which is more than can be said for a lot of the bars bad restaurants in the area , we don't think it's us

Although it was just drinks, it was lovely service and the scenery at night was great. Would definitely say to check it out for an after - meal drink.

It's not the food it's the service, staff miserable and inattentive,we now understand why this place is never busy! No atmosphere! Es Reco next door vibrant and great food and you can see why it's busy all the time

What a wonderful relaxed and beguiling eating establishment. Right on the beach, with really great food and friendly competent service. One might be fooled by initial impressions that Solleric is just another tourist trap along the beach but it is much more. We enjoyed lovely long breakfasts and delicious lunches here. With its position at the edge of the bay it also feels a little tucked away which is especially nice when the rest of the place is swarming with people and the main tourist strip is a steaming sweaty mass of over paying sunburnt tourists. Thanks Solleric. Keep up the great vibe and fresh food. We will be back!
