Like many others, we had very high expectations. We'd spent ages reading up, long lists of Pros & Cons for each resort, but once we came across the fantastic reviews of Mirihi (and comments on the forum), felt we'd found the one! Months of reading reviews only heightened this and we had even higher expectations. We actually travelled in June 2010, so apologies for the delay in writing the review!

We flew BA (great service, on time ,half empty plane - both ways) and we greeted by the handlers at Male airport. A quick bus ride to the sea plane and we were immediately greeted by a Mirihi representative and whisked off to our private lounge - no waiting in queues for us. The lounge was a great example of what was to come -very laid back, brilliant service.

Landing in Mirihi, I don't think we stopped saying 'wow' for 24hours (or 2 weeks actually). Shoes taken, drinks provided, tour around the island, seeing our room...all perfect and brilliantly done! We stayed in Room 20 (last in the line before the horse-shoe). Room 20 was absolutely brilliant - yes there are a couple of places on the walkway where people can see your balcony (which some may not like). But- you never ever see anyone, and no-one is hardly going to stay there watching you! Plus no one ever goes by the room itself. The benefits of Room 20....less worn than other rooms, but the main benefit - absolutely amazing sunrise's every morning, and lovely uninteruppted views. We'd wake up early, make a nesspresso and sit on the balcony watching the sunrise...bliss. Plus sunshine until late, late afternoon!

We went on a Whale Shark Seeker cruise – great value for money (the price decreases with more people) and had an absolutely brilliant day – snorkelled with 2 Whale Sharks and went to a lovely reef as well. Drinks and lunch were lovely. It was also a great opportunity to meet others, which was lovely for a couple of late night drinks at the bar.

The reef was amazing - snorkling and diving on it was great. I never knew I’d find baby shark so cute! The variety of fish, corals and condition of the reef was amazing. We saw 8 Eagle Ray’s one afternoon on the reef – amazing.

The Dive centre were brilliant. My OH did his Advanced while we were there, and we both did our Nitrox. The dive centre staff were brilliant - very professional, great fun and lots of laugh's. We dived every day and had some of the best dives I’ve ever had (I’ve been fortunate to dive in quite a few countries). The colours as well as the variety of fish life was brilliant. The dive centre were so flexible and ensured we got to see everything we wanted to. We were fortunate to dive with 2 Whale Sharks and a couple of manta’s – along with so many other types/sizes of fish.

The spa was really great as well – with His & Hers massage being great value (includes a bottle of lovely champers). We had several treatments and loved them. Not sure we noticed the difference between the different types of massages – but it really didn’t matter, they were so good.

We had one small issue, but once realising they’d made a mistake, the GM and his team couldn’t do enough to make it up for us – which was really nice (and it was a really minor issue).

As others have said – food was brilliant (the buffet and the bar food – we never quite made it to the restaurant despite meaning to).

All in all – an absolutely fantastic place – completely chilled pace of life and the staff work very hard to make it so (and take pride in doing so). We loved it and will be going back for our honeymoon (very unusual for us to return somewhere – but it’s that special!).

Room Tip: Email and ask (lots of the forum about it) - depends if you want ongoing access to snorkling, or all...

We stayed at the Mirihi in October 2008 for two weeks, at bungalow 29.
We wanted to be in a private bungalow, and enjoy snorkelling and scuba diving, and that's what we obtained!
It's a fantastic Hotel, good conditioned and adapted to preserve nature, the crew (leaded by Peter) were very kind and helpful
Our bungalow, the number 29, was well furnished, and the open bathroom over the water was unbelievable. The terrace, very private, has an access to the sea and a shower, that is perfect to stay 5 hours snorkeling!
To practice snorkeling and ensure to have water enough and better reefs, the group of bungalows at the end of the Island are better than the side-along ones.
The Diving crew, a very proffesional german team, were well organized and the excursions are correctly announced.
The only thing to say is that the island is so tiny, so we spent 5 minutes to walk around it. It's 50 meters width and 300 meters long, so it is not appropriate for those people want to jogging!
Regarding the restaurant, is good, high quality made, but not so much variated. Dishes are repeated and we would have be grateful to have more fish and meat options.
However, we spent fantastic days there.

This has to be the most amazing place on Earth! The staff are fantastic from the minute you arrive - the service is incredible. The accommodation is spotless and everything is of the highest quality. The rooms are huge, the bathrooms lovely with their glass doors opening onto the sea....total privacy, so you can shower without closing the shutters. The coral reef with all the wonderful fish are just below you and the tranquility is heaven. We even manage to snorkel at night from our patio, as there is a light underneath the water chalets...There is amazing choice of food - the buffet style evening meals are fantastic. I once again departed with a few added pounds...LoL... :o))) Snorkeling was really good, really nice house reef with good coral, tons of fishes and we saw 2 turtles, reef sharks when snorkeling on the house reef. Diving was also quite good. I saw a few eagle ray and stingray and tons of beautiful fish. The highlight was diving the last day and we manage to see Manta ray's and Whale Sharks... Awesome, awesome!!!!!!

After more then five stays we still consider this one of the very best places to be on the Maldives. It is the mix of respectful friendly service, cultivated (not arrogant) guests, a relaxed atmosphere, a very good kitchen under the leadership of Chef de cuisine Bamert, a very good diving center (with Hassan, THE diver master you must have) and one of the best small SPAs I have ever seen (a daily treat to be in heaven). Fortunately the Island chief has come back, Martin Vossen, who pushes the crew to improve from year to year.

My husband and I have just returned from our amazing 10 day stay at Mirihi for our honeymoon.

We spent a lot of time researching islands, as we had never been to the Maldives before and there is such a diverse choice that may or may not suit what you are looking for. Mirihi appealed to us for a lot of reasons and we are so glad we chose the island- it was perfect for us!

The island is small and there are only 36 rooms on island. Given how small the island was, we were surprised at how many days we felt we had the island to ourselves. There were days when we sat on the beach and didn't see anyone else! It felt like our own private paradise.

There are also a lot of day trips and activities to keep you busy if you get antsy. My husband was afraid we might have a moment or two of boredom on an island so small- but in the end there was more than enough for us to do! We took the cooking class- where you learn to cook your own Maldivian/Sri Lankan curry (and eat the results!) . We also went ‘Big Game’ fishing were we caught two huge Wahoo, which the chef cooked up for our lunch when we returned. We enjoyed the full moon cruise as well as a romantic dinner on the beach under the stars (twice!  ). Couples massages, sunset drinks over the water and snorkeling at the amazing house reef (we saw reef sharks, sea turtles, dolphins- all without ever leaving the island reef!) all helped to fill our days. We didn’t use the dive centre, but this was very active everyday and obviously very popular, as were the snorkeling trips. But for us the house reef was more than sufficient to satisfy, the diversity of sea life was the best we have seen anywhere!

The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious. The service exceeded all our expectations- we were treated like royalty and everyone on the island is just so friendly. Martin, Bastian, and Julia really went out of their way to chat with us daily and to ensure everything was to our expectations. The food was amazing – we were on half board, and enjoyed the buffet and the food varied nightly so you weren’t bored with the selections. Even though it is a buffet, they also have several ‘food stations’ where the chef cooks fresh right in front of you. We ate at the ala carte restaurant twice and the food was nothing short of incredible, even more so when you realize where you are and that the food easily rivals many top restaurants back in civilization! Hat’s off to chef Felix and his team.

Overall, Mirihi fulfilled everything we were looking for and more. It had everything - understated luxury, good food, fantastic reef, personalized service. We would not hesitate to return!

We were very undecided on where to go for our honeymoon as there were so many great looking islands to choose from, some much more luxurious than Mirihi but what swayed us to book this island were the tripadvisor reviews and we wernt disappointed. Mirihi was a perfect choice. The island was quiet with only 36 rooms and the service very attentive. The service from Martin, Bastian & the team was exceptional and this is what puts this island above the rest. Food provided by head chef Felix was amazing and there was every food you could possibly imagine. We stayed in water villa 36 which was the last villa in the horseshoe shaped section. This was great as it was really secluded and you could swim directly off the decking steps to the reef for snorkling. We also did a few scuba dives on the house reef as well as some local dive sites. The house reef is one of the best reefs we have dived and i would put it on par with the great barrier reef in Austrailia. Half way through our holiday we had a couples massage and romantic lobster dinner on the beach which was out of the world and really did make our honeymoon romantic and special. If you want a relaxing holiday in beautiful surrounding, great food and service then look no further. Mirihi ticks all the boxes.

GO!

After doing a lot of research on Tripadivisor and talking with friends who had been to various resorts around the Maldives, we chose Mirihi for our week vacation. My husband and I absolutely loved every minute of it.

-It is a tiny, small island. Other resorts are not necessarily crowded, but we had about 50 guests on the island when we stayed. Can you beat that?

-Mix of tourist culture, you can be anti-social but if you want to talk to people, they were all interesting. People were from everywhere: italians, germans, british, americans and more.

-Good value when comparing other 'high-end' resorts. (Don't be confused-this is still, in my opinion high-end!) It might not be as polished as other resorts, but to me it made the island feel more authentic and comfortable.

-Food: considering it is an island, it was delicious every night. The presentation was incredible, and the different themes were really nice. The new Swiss chef was enthusiastic, and we highly recommend taking Maldivian cooking class if you get a chance.

-Weather: perfect. Some people had talked about the 'wet season' but I think that just means a few minutes of rain. Bring lots of sunscreen though!

-Peace and quiet. Sometimes you wouldn't see people for hours on the beach. This is a resort were you need to bring books (they have a small library too) or rent water activity gear if you want something to do. Sitting around relaxing or snorkeling in the reef is the name of the game at Mirihi.

-Super friendly and helpful staff. They all made you feel welcome without being pushy trying to sell trips or events. One or two daily organized activities, but you didn't have to do anything if you didn't want to. They also accommodate anything else you want privately (but would cater to your every wim anyway!)

-Water, reef & sand. Many people (staff & guests included) kept saying how nice it was at Mirihi. I'm not a scuba diver, but their reef is truly amazing compared to other places since you basically swim 30 feet from the beach, or out from your villa and you have tons to look at.

Last, if people find little things wrong with this island, they probably wouldn't be happy anywhere. Choose Mirihi-it was surreal and it was truly paradise!
