We have just got back from a two week holiday on Mirihi and I can honestly say that it was the most amazing two weeks of my life. We had high expectations for the island after reading so many positive comments in the reviews and on the forums, and to be honest, we didn't think there was any way that Mirihi could live up to all the hype... We were wrong! Mirihi is perfect in every way if you are looking for relaxation, an unbeatable house reef, fantastic service, a beautiful island and a holiday that you will never forget.

We have been to the Maldives twice before, to different islands, and although both of those islands were wonderful, we found Mirihi to be in a different class altogether. There is something about the atmosphere of the place, so chilled and relaxing and you really get the feel that the staff will do anything they can to make your holiday as perfect and unforgettable as possible.

The main reason we chose Mirihi was because it has such a highly rated house reef and we certainly weren't disappointed by this element of the holiday! Neither of us are divers, but even snorkelling we saw something new every time we went out. There were turtles, big sharks, little sharks, lion fish, squid, eels, thousands of types of fish and we even had the pleasure of snorkelling with a group of eight eagle rays. We also went on the whale shark seeker excursion and were lucky enough to swim with TWO whale sharks and a manta ray. Swimming with the whale sharks, rays and turtles were some of the best experiences I have ever had in my life and I will always be grateful for having the opportunity to do these things.

We stayed in a water villa (no.23) and were really impressed with the accommodation. On most holidays, the pictures don't live up to the brochure but with Mirihi, I felt it was really the other way around. I had seen pictures of the water villas and they looked pretty good, but in reality they are simply stunning. They're very spacious inside (the shower is huge!), and really light and airy with glass doors that completely fold back, making the beautiful views seem even closer. The deck is fab too, with two sun loungers and a table and chairs for dining outside. There are also stairs leading straight down to the ocean and the reef but be aware that when the tide is low, the coral actually sticks right out of the water so you couldn't always swim straight off your deck (it only takes a minute to walk round to the beach though!). You also get complimentary bottles of water provided in your villa daily, as well as coffee from a nespresso machine.

Another stand out point from our holiday was the food at the main buffet restaurant (Dhonveli). It certainly wasn't your standard buffet, everything we ate there, we would have been happy to have eaten in a pricey restaurant in the UK. There were different themes every night of the week, from Italian night, to Maldivian night, to BBQ night (our personal favourite!). We found it amazing that they can get such high quality food (meat especially) on such a tiny island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. One night we had roast aberdeen angus beef with roasted potatoes and vegetables and honestly, it was the best roast dinner we'd ever had!!

We also went to Muraka (the a la carte restaurant) one night for a meal and again, the food there was fantastic. To be honest though, because the food was so good in the main restaurant (and we were half board so it was included in our holiday price), we preferred to eat at the buffet as it allowed us to try a little bit of everything and we discovered lots of new foods and meals to try at home (we didn't just eat roast dinners!!). I also loved being able to dine outside at the main restaurant, with the beach and the ocean just metres away from you - what a view to enjoy while you're eating dinner/breakfast!

I could go on forever, describing how wonderful this place is and all of the things we enjoyed so I'll write a few bullet points and try to summarise briefly!

- Kayaks and windsurfing - Guests can use the kayaks and windsurfing equipment free of charge, at any time. We took advantage of this and really enjoyed kayaking around the island.

- Catamaran - We went out on the catamaran for an hour which we thought was great value at $45. We had a great time, very exciting and just a little bit scary when the wind picked up!! Definitely worth doing.

- Excursion to Conrad (Ithaa underwater restaurant) - We arranged an excursion to the underwater restaurant on Conrad Rangali (a neighbouring resort) for cocktails. We really enjoyed the opportunity to visit the restaurant and experience it, and also thought it was great to have a wander around and explore another resort. The trip over on the small speedboat from Mirihi was very exciting(!!!) and reasonably priced.

- Anba bar - I'm not sure if they are quite a new addition to the island, but there are big squishy bean bags outside the bar on the beach and we loved to just chill out on them after dinner with a cocktail. My cocktail recommendations are - Maldivian Sunset and Mirihi Daiquiri!

- Welcome cocktails - Every wednesday at Muraka, there are welcome drinks to give new guests the opportunity to meet other guests and members of staff (all of the managers attend). It was lovely to talk to different members of staff and learn about their roles and also, the complimentary drinks just kept coming!! They were very generous, and we enjoyed some lovely canapés too. Our evening was made even more special by the group of ten eagle rays that decided to join us by the jetty - prosecco, canapés and eagle rays; what more do you need?!

- Other guests - We made friends with two couples that were staying on the island and for us, this was quite unusual as on other resorts, people have very much kept themselves to themselves. On Mirihi though, because the island is so small, you see the same faces again and again and you soon get chatting to other people. While we were there, there weren't many other guests from the UK so it was great to make some friends to have a drink with and share some laughs/memories with.

- I've already mentioned the service but wanted to say again how fab all of the staff were and thank them all for contributing to our wonderful memories of Mirihi. Special mention to Zuhury from the main restaurant who took us out snorkelling for two hours to help us find a turtle (he found one for us too!!). Also, Hassan from the main restaurant who always had a smile for us and always made us laugh.

The final thing to comment on is the weather. We stayed from the 24th May - 8th June and were very worried that we would experience nothing but rain during our stay! I know that the weather we experienced will have no bearing on what the weather will be like at that time next year, but I personally found it reassuring to read that others had good weather in May/June before we went. We had glorious weather for the majority of our stay - the second week in particular was pretty much blue skies every day and very, very hot. The first week was a little over cast and more breezy but honestly, it was welcome as it made the heat a bit more bearable! Yes, we had rain, and we had storms but we had very little daytime rain. It almost magically tended to stay dry until around 5:30 when we went in to get ready for dinner, and then there would sometimes be a shower. When it rained, it tended to be heavy rain and very windy with it and it would generally last for 10 minutes or so. There were some storms overnight that lasted much longer but we were lucky to only have one longer storm in daytime hours.

We never thought that we would be "repeat visitors" to a country but after our first holiday in the Maldives, we are definitely addicted to this special, unique part of the world. We definitely never thought that we would be "repeat visitors" to the same resort but the thought of never going back to Mirihi makes me want to cry!! I think Mirihi's perfection has ruined other resorts for me as I would constantly be comparing them and so, I think I can say with certainty that we will return to Mirihi someday, hopefully in the not so distant future.

Room Tip: Don't worry about which villa you get - they are all amazing and all have their benefits. You won't be disappointed!

Went for out honeymoon in May and can't think of anything to fault.
Staff were wonderful, the place is beautiful and the food was fantastic. Being a vegetarian I'd had my concerns but there was plenty to choose from.
Our only diapointment was being in the 2/10 that didn't see whale sharks at that time of year but we did swim with a manta ray.

Room Tip: There are rooms which look out towards sunset and rooms which look out on sunrise.

The resort itself can't be faulted. The service is great and all staff are friendly and helpful. It is small and there isn't much to do but the beaches are beautiful and snorkeling quite good. The rooms are not as luxurious as other Maldivian resorts and the beds are too hard. However rooms are clean and well serviced. The food is amazing and expect to leave here a few pounds heavier. We are keen divers and were not disappointed by the dive centre which is professional and well organized. The diving visibility was not the best but we saw some mantas which was the highlight of our trip.

Our biggest complaint was the running of activities. Our primary reason in coming to this resort was the whale shark tour. We signed up for two different days and both were cancelled. One for not enough people and the other "high winds". Given the winds were less than other days when we had gone out boat diving on the outer reef this was especially disappointing. We also signed up for dolphin cruise which was also cancelled. This would have been ok if it was run more frequently but the next Cruise was scheduled for a weeks time so the majority of people who signed up would not get to do this trip. We understand that they can't help weather but if they ran trips more frequently they would at least increase the chances of people being able to do something. We were here for 6 days and were it not for diving we would have been a bit bored.

In summary we were incredibly disappointed because we came to try and see whale sharks, which never ran because of limited activities. Our tip is to come for a relaxing holiday and some nice diving but don't come here especially to see whale sharks as there are other resorts that do that more frequently.

Mirihi was AMAZING!!!!! We were there to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary and get away from the craziness of everyday life in Dubai. From the moment we stepped out if the seaplane which took us to the island, we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager and his team. We had an explanation about the island, the hotel and activities available! We stayed in the water villas, which are bungalows right on the sea. What fascinated us was its full integration with nature. The bungalows architecture was perfect, simple but with a really good taste with huge wooden sliding doors opening to the sea! Every night we slept with our doors opened, feeling the cool breeze and the sea sound; and every morning we would wake up jumping on the sea. Even being so opened, the bungalows are very private, so no need to worry about people watching you! The island is perfect for snorkeling and diving because there are huge coral pools all around it! The water is unbelievably blue! Just like you see in travel magazines! The island is not big but we found it enough and great for 5-6 days! The staff was really friendly, the food really nice and tasty! Room services were done twice a day! There is no TV in the rooms, no swimming pools in the hotel and that’s what is charmy about it because you find many other interesting activities to do and you get to relax much more! Other nice thing is that since the hotel is not very big, you get to see the other guests and it just feels like you know those people after a couple of days. There were no children at all. It was an island for couples and honeymooners! It is a perfect place for those who wish to escape from big cities and interact with nature. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!!!!!

Before we chose Mirihi, we have done a lot of research work to find the best one with following requirements from 87 Maldives resorts. 1) Romantic. 2) Distinctive house reef. 3) Medium budget. And finally Mirihi win out.

We were lead to the personal waiting lounge when arrived Male. As previous reviews said, after reach the lounge, you can feel that this would be relaxing and unique journey.

After landing on the Mirihi jetty, we were told to leave luggage there and shoes also left at the reception. After the brief introduction around the island by Mohammed, we arrived at our water villa no. 16 and surprised to find that all the luggage and shoes are already in our room. And more surprising is: our room is well decorated with flowers and there are also wine/chocolate/fruit for honeymoon gifts. We actually did not request for that ahead but only fill our personal information including marriage date just half an hour ago when waiting at the lounge!

The staff are truly warm and nice, everyone always smile and said hi to us whenever, wherever we met. The staff in the restaurant are also very helpful, they always greeting with us and try to talk with us about how is out stay but not too instuctive. And they did remember every one of us. The food are also unique and there are many choices. Honestly speaking, the taste is not very suitable for Asian/Chinese, but it is already much better than what we expected. And more important is they are totally free of extra expense, we booked BB and free-upgraded to HB and always feel full for all day even for HB.

The house reef is truly distinctive and can reach very easily from every villa. We have saw many fishes and there is even baby shark and baby mantas swimming around water villa no. 16-20! For snorkeling, semicircle villa (no. 21-36) and No. 15 and 16 of linear villa have better reef than other rooms. We have snorkeling around island, and the house reef around the service jetty is the best!

Our departure flight is late night at 11 pm and check out time is 12 noon. We are some kind of worried about how to spend the 12 hour after checking out. However, the day before we leave, we received the message that we can stay at our villa until 5 pm for the last seaplane. On the day we leave, the staff helped us to take the luggage and shoes and also helped to arrange hotel for bathing/rest at Male if we like. They do care us like a family member!

If what you are looking for is similar to ours, Mirihi will never let you regret! And if you can understand Chinese, from following link you can find how we choose Mirihi http://bbs.qyer.com/viewthread.php?tid=568228

Room Tip: Semicircle villas or No. 15 and 16 of linear villa for better snorkeling.
