“No longer a good place to walk the dog”

Stockgrove Country Park
Attraction details
Reviewed 14 June 2013

We used to go there pretty much every week to walk the dog. Not anymore. Since it was passed to the Greensand trust it has become more of a commercial venture than a place for families to walk their dog on a Sunday afternoon. You have to pay to park and they have limited the areas where you are allowed to let you dog off the lead. You are much better to go to a National Trust place such as Ashridge where there are no restrictions for the dog, no parking charges and facilities that are just as good.

I used to walk my dogs here always but now come infrequently as its awkward to find nearby free parking as owners/council got on the bandwagon of fleecing visitors with parking charges and now I think most people have cottoned onto it and deserted park and go elswhere where free parking is plentiful, enough said !

A large country park for all seasons. Bring walking boots - lightweight should be adequate as the soil is sandy. The reserve is managed using Exmoor ponies. These brought heather beetle with them, which attacks the heather, but the plus side of this is that the heather is forced into beautiful new green regrowth in spring.

I have spent a happy half-day here, and could probably have been reasonably well occupied for a full day if I had packed a picnic. There was ice cream when we visited.

There is a £2 charge to use the car park.
