“Marvellous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

Been here a few times, the garden is amazing, full of almost tame birds that bob about amongst the tables. Choice of drink is spot on, and the food is absolutely delicious. Can get busy on a sunny day though.

“nearly excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

good range of real ales
excellent attitude bar staff
lovely walkers bar with stone floor
and remanant of cow stalls !
beer garden, stunning location
Excellent half spring chicken, new potatoes etc.

So why only 4 star ?

My wife is a vegetarian
the one V dish was "still cooking in the pot"
The baked potato with cheese....well
I asked if the cheese was vegetarian,
barman thought it was candid camera,
tis cheese.

she had a bowl of chips,
soon after leaving she still tasted the fat in her mouth,
became convinced they had been cooked in lard !##

Someday talk to the hotel manager about what Vegetarian actually means.

“Stumbled in with dogs after a morning walk”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

We (4 adults, 2 kids, 2 dogs) visited for lunch recently following a walk at nearby Blea Tarn. Ordering was a little slow but as the sun had come out and it was bank holiday weekend the place was very busy.

Food arrived in good time and was good. I had the half chicken that was well cooked, the Cumberland sausage had by another of our party looked particularly good. The child portions were all generous. We ate outside and the tables are a little close with 2 dogs lying around your feet. Plenty of water available for them though.

Good choice of beer that was of good quality - very refreshing.

Overall beer and food was good, location is excellent but the service was average.

“Just near the campsite”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

A very good pub with a nice fire and good beer and grub. A superb location in great surroundings and just a few minutes walk from Great Langdale Campsite.
The only thing to nick pick about was my medium steak was more on the well done side but I can live with that as everything else was grand.

“Top Banana”

Popped in here for a post hike drink whilst camping at the local camp site. The place was full to the brim with people of all ages enjoying the folk festival. I personally had a pint of Jennings Cumberland Ale which was served perfectly,
