Very, very beautifull, a stylish boutique hotel surrounded by a beautifull garden. The restaurant is outstanding too, as well for breakfast as for lunch and dinner. The rooms are very quiet. A luxereous starting point for visiting Catania, the Etna, Taormina and nice villages like Aci Trezza.

Room Tip: The suite rooms with balcony are the best

The gardens and buildings are very attractive. There are fabulous views and the adjacent railway track was not a detractor for me. The drawback is that there is nowhere to promenade before or after dinner. The service was excellent and there was no language barrier at all. The rooms are well appointed but some sound proofing would help. Breakfast choices were extensive but as with all the hotels we stayed at in Sicily the evening menu didn't change much so if you were here for more than 2-3 days you would need to eat out occasionally for some variety. The hotel is well located for visits to Etna, Taormina and Catania.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floor.

We stayed at this hotel in February- had 3 different rooms as we travelled with our cars from Malta. The hotel is quite isolated and would not recommend it if you don't have a car. We were given the entrance gate access code so we could enter at our own convenience and the hotel has a good parking (beware from the morning sprinklers if you have a clean car) :) The staff were very hospitable and kind. We had a suite with a modern 4 poster bed and adjoining living room, both with a lovely terrace overlooking the garden nurseries. The other 2 rooms had upstairs/downstairs layout- a living room downstairs which was converted to sleeping quarters for the children and an upstairs bedroom for the parents. Our group in the latter rooms facing the railway line commented that this was quite audible during the night. However, I must point out that all the rooms were lovely, really nicely decorated, clean, with large flat screen TVs. We did not try the pool as it was Winter but we could see this was a nice place and well maintained. Breakfast was fantastic, mostly fresh produce; fruit, cereals, freshly baked cakes and scones with homemade jams and marmalades, fresh ricotta, cheeses and salamis and delicious breads. The hotel is ideally located at the base of the Etna and in close proximity to Taormina and Catania. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again in the future if I visit Sicily again.

My Wife and I travelled to Sicily in April and Donna Carmela was our first stop.

We arrived at Donna Carmela at 8:30pm and no sooner had we parked our car in the private car park, a member of staff was there to help with our luggage. Daniele had coordinated our stay and was in reception to meet us with a drink and tell us about his accommodation.

Our room was split over two levels with the bedroom upstairs and had french doors and a juliet balcony, which looked straight onto Etna. Our view in the morning was like a painting. The best view I have ever seen from a Hotel room (or, perhaps the best view I have ever seen).

The restaurant produced traditional Sicilian food, served like a 5* establishment but was not over priced. They recommend local wine to compliment the food and it did very well. Breakfast is served in a buffet style (but not like the UK!). Fresh fruit (prepared), cheese (fresh) ham (fresh (proscuitto) and a selection of cakes and pastries which can be taken in the restaurant or on one of the terraces looking onto Mount Etna.

Daniele arranged a tour of Etna (in a 4x4) and we had a fabulous day (£65 per person for a half day - 9am till 1pm). I can not fault Donna Carmela for anything and having enjoyed a glass of wine in our room while watching Mount Etna erupt into the midnight sky, can honestly say we will never forget our magical time at Donna Carmela.

The accommodation is a former farm-house and is nestled in the countryside so I would encourage anyone who stays there to hire a car and explore Risposto and the surrounding area. If you have the opportunity to choose a specific room, choose room 11 with the Etna view!

In summary, Donna Carmela is a beautiful little hotel and the food, staff and location are as good as it gets.

*The local restaurants / cafés close from 2:30pm until 5pm (ish) so make sure you book in for lunch before then!

Room Tip: Room 11 has the most wonderful view of Mount Etna. (if you are lucky, like us and it erupts while yo...

We spent four days and three nights at this hotel during our stay in Sicily! The scenery is amazing and the staff too!
We used to have breakfast at roundabout 9am and then get back to the hotel at 7pm. we used to find the rooms all cleaned up. The rooms are fully air conditioned and those rooms which consisted of two floors also had two air conditioners and two bathrooms. We were there as a whole family and thus we got three different rooms and we were excited to see the best features of each room since all rooms are different from each other.
I definitely encourage you to visit this hotel!

A fabulous small hotel just outside the little village of Riposto in Sicily. Everything has been designed with great thought - especially the beautiful light fittings everywhere. There are wonderful flowers and plants even in all the rooms and the food is superb. Best of all are the staff - they were so very pleasant and helpful and just could not do enough for us.
We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: We had a Junior Suite facing the gardens and the pool ( and the sea in the distance ) and couldn'...

Donna carmela is a lovely place to stay. It's got the right balance of stylish design, great food and friendly service.

we had booked a room facing etna but instead got an upgrade to one facing the sea - well worth it as etna tends to be in cloud and you're overlooking the railway line on that side too.

It's a little bit of paradise in an otherwise pretty non descript location so be prepared to eat there most nights. We stayed there on our first two nights on the island and wished we'd booked for longer.

And for plant lovers, check out the owner's massive nursery at Piante faro http://www.piantefaro.com/eng/gruppo.php

Room Tip: Face the sea rather than etna.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
A home in the parkPlaced in the heart of a nursery specialised in Mediterranean plants, Donnacarmela is ready to welcome you in a 19th century Sicilian house that has been refurbished in full respect of the original but given all the modern comforts. Elegantly refined, the building dominates the ten thousand square metre nursery garden. Here you may enjoy a guided tour to discover the hundreds of scents and varieties of Mediterranean plants. It is also possible to admire a private collection of subtropical plants. The courtyards in lavic paving, the ancient cistern and river pebbles, the well-stocked wine cellar and the swimming surrounded by secular olive trees, the comfortable spaces designed to relax and the quiet reading room, the wide halls and ample dining room: all this has been designed to make your stay exceptional. Ten hectares in the most prestigious wine area on mount Etna are where we produce the Doc wine for Donnacarmela. The vineyards were bought by Donnacarmela in 2006 and they are between Solicchiata and Passopisciaro on the northern side of the volcano in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards all grow Nerello Mascalese, the vine that produces the most appreciated wines in this area. This is where the ‘Montedolce Etna Doc’ is born from the passion and commitment of the Faro family in an area that has wine for its vocation. The name of the wine comes from the place where we produce it. The wine-making is done in a well-equipped cellar in Mascali, the area of origin of the Nerello Mascalese, only a few kilometres away from Donnacarmela.Montedolce is characterised by its ruby-red colour, red berry scents with mineral notes, and by the complexity, persistence and elegant tannin it offers the palate. We do not only offer wine and taste, however. A little lower down the mountain side, between the Ionic coast and the first hills, it is possible to find the Mediterranean plants that have found the best environment to grow here. Thus, they develop into unrepeatable shapes and colours: the Abutilon, the Agave, the Ficus, the Cistus, the Opuntiae, the ornamental Citrus plants are all to be found in the gardens of Donnacarmela. They are the essence of Mediterranean gardens. Tese plants and flowers offer themselves to visitors in all their charm. ... more   less
