We went to a wedding at the Morton Arboretum and it was one of the most beautiful settings. The wedding was in the "Hedge Garden" surrounded by boxwoods and different kinds of bushes. Everything was so green ! There is a children's garden with a maze made out of bushes, very fun and educational. It is so huge, unfortunately we did not have the chance to explore other areas but I would highly recommend you come check this place out if you love nature, hiking , trees, birds.

The Morton Arboretum is a beautiful place to walk among trees, lakes, a stream and to see birds and squirrels in their natural habitat. The park is labeled with trees from different parts of the world, i.e. Japan & China as well as the US. Many of the trees and plants are marked and upon entering you are provided with a map showing the walking trails as well as the one-way road which winds throughout the park. There are benches and tables for picnicking. There is a gift shop and snack bar with light food available. We have visited several times and were there on our first date 13 years ago. We hope to visit whenever we are in the area.

My wife and I are big fans of the Chicago Botanic Garden but haven't been to the Morton Arboretum for years (it's quite a bit further from home). It's an excellent facility and we are lucky the area has been preserved. However, it is not a garden (although it has a couple of small gardens). It is a space dedicated to trees. For those who are expecting amazing color and flowers, you will likely be disappointed. However, if you want to walk among groves of trees and hike around savannas, woodlands, forests and lakes to see nature and wildlife then this is for you. We took the one-hour tram ride to get the "lay of the land" because the place is huge: 1700 acres. The have a large central visitors center with store, restaurant and cafe plus remote visitor centers to support their "remote" sites. You can bring a bike here or rent one to see the entire Arboretum too.

I absolutely love Morton Arboretum. I have been going here for many years and have kept a membership for the last three. There is so much to do here and is also a great place to take the kids. Having said that, it is also large enough that you can avoid any children as well. It is open year round and you can even rent skis and snowshoes in the winter. In the warmer months you can rent a bike or bring your own. If you enjoy hiking, biking, picnicking, or just being outdoors I highly suggest you give this place a visit.
