The girl at the front desk, who was more concerned with drawing than doing anything for guests, was our introduction to the Marion Hampton. When we checked in, she literally just checked us in, did not welcome us, tell us where anything was, or that there was breakfast, or a workout room or free drinks Mon.-Thurs. She was WORTHLESS! I think part of the problem with this hotel is that it is manned mostly by college kids who could care less about work.
The room was clean, the housekeepers were the saving grace.
The air-conditioner was noisy and needed cleaning, the fridge make loud knocking noises and the fan in the bathroom made annoying bangs and the light would flash on and off. We asked if they could fix the bulb and we were told that there were no maintenance people and we would have to wait until the morning.
Our keys to get in the hotel door by our room would not work half the time and we would have to walk around the exterior of the hotel with our hands full and go in the front. When we told by the front desk people, they said we were doing it wrong, which we weren't.
If you are a light sleeper, stay somewhere else! I had ear plugs in and a pillow over my head, plus we bought a box fan to go in the room, and I could still hear the fridge noises and the room doors slamming and the elephant staying on the floor above us who was running a marathon in the room all night.
The location was the best part. Although we did not travel to Marion to go to Target, Walmart, the mall or numerous other chain stores, they were conveniently located behind the hotel. The person I went with was a smoker and the hotel is non-smoking, but they have picnics tables with ashtrays on the hotel grounds. We actually enjoyed sitting out at the table (when the hotel staff were not hogging it) and watching birds and listening to the insects in the field , it was a touch of nature in the middle of everything.
The hotel felt clean, the location was good, the breakfast was okay. The beds were pretty firm and there was no in-room wireless internet available. The staff never informed us of any of the amenities or perks.
Bottom line, the worst part about the Hampton in Marion, based on my personal experience, is the attitude of the staff.
We will not be staying at this hotel again!
