“Great Place to Eat & Drink”

We recently visited Mt. Vernon, Ill and found this newly opened chop house. You wouldn't think so from the outside but it is truly impressive.
Come through the front doors and you see a beautiful slate topped bar. The drinks are expertly prepared and, like the food, are very reasonably priced. Eating area is also nicely arranged. Food is terrific, prepared with attention and served in decent portions that are not overwhelmingly huge. Chef comes around talking to patrons asking their opinion about the food and if they liked it. Food is fairly reasonably priced relative to what you may have to pay in big cities, say Chicago or New York. From inside you think this is not Mt. Vernon but it is. Wonderful experience.

“Urban Sophistication in small town America”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

You walk in the side door of a nondescript brick warehouse that looks like its been around a century or so and you walk into a funky, trendy, sophisticated dining room that would not be out of place in the heart of New York City. The prices are high, but the food is fabulous and they carry an impressive selection of wines, all bottles visible from your seat within that glass wine cellar that sits in the centre of the dining room. I am Canadian, and so I decided to be brave and try the shrimp and grits. Grits are something that Canadians don't eat, but I will recommend this dish to anyone, with the caveat that it is not the most healthful choice. We were a table of six and the service we received was exemplary. We really could not have asked for a better dining experience.
