I certainly cannot argue with this location if one wishes to visit Nauvoo. A block from the temple, accessible to the only eating places in town and by the best buffet.
This is an older place so the arrangement and layout reflect that, however I also like historical places with their 'real' feel rather than all plastic and chrome. Two stories and there is no elevator. Parking is convenient. This is in the center of town, however Nauvoo is quiet at night and our sleep was not disturbed. The second floor always has cookies, coffee, hot chocolate and tea.
The south rooms are small as noted, but not painfully so, and they are very tastefully decorated. The bedding, chairs, appointments, carpet and paint are fresh. The internet access is fast and consistent. Rooms include television, chairs and a desk. This works well for a couple, however there is not enough room for a cot or extra bed.
The bathroom however is spacious and modern with very nice quality towels.
Not too much of a view out of any of the windows.
Management was attentive and the housekeeping staff cheerful.
Buffet is generous and very well supplied. The salad bar includes 3 or 4 ambrosia type 'dessert salads'. The most economical option is salad, soup and dessert bar at under $10. The full buffet includes potatoes, vegetables, fried catfish, and several meats carved at the line.
The dining rooms have the same decor as the rest of the hotel - old fashioned and well maintained.
From the front one would assume that the serving/eating area is very small, however several large rooms accommodate very large crowds of local patrons and visitors. There is not a lot of local competition but this place clearly is the top benchmark. Although not a lot of takers with the many Mormon visitors eating here, a wine list is available.
