“Historical and delightful place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 October 2011

I certainly cannot argue with this location if one wishes to visit Nauvoo. A block from the temple, accessible to the only eating places in town and by the best buffet.

This is an older place so the arrangement and layout reflect that, however I also like historical places with their 'real' feel rather than all plastic and chrome. Two stories and there is no elevator. Parking is convenient. This is in the center of town, however Nauvoo is quiet at night and our sleep was not disturbed. The second floor always has cookies, coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

The south rooms are small as noted, but not painfully so, and they are very tastefully decorated. The bedding, chairs, appointments, carpet and paint are fresh. The internet access is fast and consistent. Rooms include television, chairs and a desk. This works well for a couple, however there is not enough room for a cot or extra bed.

The bathroom however is spacious and modern with very nice quality towels.

Not too much of a view out of any of the windows.

Management was attentive and the housekeeping staff cheerful.

Buffet is generous and very well supplied. The salad bar includes 3 or 4 ambrosia type 'dessert salads'. The most economical option is salad, soup and dessert bar at under $10. The full buffet includes potatoes, vegetables, fried catfish, and several meats carved at the line.

The dining rooms have the same decor as the rest of the hotel - old fashioned and well maintained.

From the front one would assume that the serving/eating area is very small, however several large rooms accommodate very large crowds of local patrons and visitors. There is not a lot of local competition but this place clearly is the top benchmark. Although not a lot of takers with the many Mormon visitors eating here, a wine list is available.

Quaint hotel, but bedroom extremely small. It was uncomfortable; I had thought I would want to stay in an old hotel like this, that it would be neat....but I was wrong. Nice people, but..there was also NO place to eat on Sunday evening. We were told to go to Casey's convenience store and get a pizza...you know, one of those pizzas that revolve around under the heat lamps...ugh. All in all, we would not stay in Nauvoo at all next time. And, nothing against the hotel owners, but even though the price is good, they can't expect guests to be comfortable in a room where the bed fills the entire room and we can barely move around. Sometimes a "good price" just isn't everything.

we actually stayed in the motel, not the hotel because it was a little cheaper. the room was comfortable, decor was a old and the lay out of the room was awkward. because there was no free breakfast we left that place at 6 am in the morning...we weren't sad to leave. not to mention we were in nauvoo illinois. if you're not mormon you will feel uncomfortable and will regret your choice to stay in a place were the fun thing to do is to go to lds musicals about joseph smith.
major downsides: no gym, not even a continental breakfast, old interior and decor, not as clean as you'd expect a motel to be, smack dab in the middle of mormon disneyland

If you're looking for a very clean, cozy and affordable place to stay in Nauvoo, you'll find it here. It is conveniently located near the historic area, though not as close as the Hotel Nauvoo that is operated by the same management. There is free wireless Internet, although they did have an outage one night. There is also a discount off breakfast as their nearby cafe.

If historic inns are your rainbow, this is your pot of gold.

We stayed overnight here and dined repeatedly. Not only was everything exceptionally clean and enjoyable, but the overnight rooms are some of the most affordable in town. The staff was helpful and friendly, too.

The total experience is highly recommended.

Hotel Nauvoo is a sweet "little house on prairie" type experience -- an actual key to open door, Nana's quilts on lumpy beds, noisy air cond in window, slow plumbing (be prepared to sprint for the toilet plunger), and dated decor. However, it provides clean linens on the beds, a clean room, and free wi-fi. The towels were thin and felt like sandpaper but they were, at least, absorbent. The people were very nice. The restaurant downstairs is too expensive -- ($15/pp) too much for american/cowboy food, meat n potatoes. Nauvoo shuts down at 6/7 p.m. so eat before you get here or you'll have to splurge on the pricey buffet downstairs.

Thank you for your comments. They're very important to us.

We apologize for any inconvenience that you experienced during your stay with us.

Even though we're a restored 1840's inn, a plumbing problem isn't something that our guests normally experience. Our maintenace staff has responded to avoid any such problem in the future.

Also, we pride ourselves in providing the highest quality mattresses to help ensure a good nights sleep, so we have evaluated every one of our beds to ensure that they meet that standard.

Please give us the opportunity to provide you with the finest experience on your next visit.

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was large and easily accommodated my family of seven. The decor did a great job of feeling like the 1800's or early 1900's. This was our first visit to Nauvoo and so we were very interested in seeing some of the rich history displayed throughout the hotel. Beautifully done and tasteful pictures and nick nacks were interesting to find and look at.
The buffet meal was quite a hit for my crew and I was pleased with the quality of some of the dishes. We really liked the sticky buns!
My only complaint might be the obvious lack of any pictures of the Mormon temple or anything indicating the Mormon influence in the decor. A small sign out front greeted us that this was an old Mormon hotel or home but nothing inside would ever support it. Perhaps absolute neutrality is the goal, but it almost begged explanation when less than a block away from the huge and gorgeous temple.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would do it again.
