We stayed here in October 2012 for my partners 30th birthday. Check in was not until 3pm, however, we arrived at 7am after a long flight-we had emailed ahead to let the hotel now this and asked if we could leave our bags until check in. They did one better and actually checked us in, which was great as we needed to get over the jet lag! The room was small, but adequate, and was very clean, the bed was really comfy and the hotel is in a quiet area, so no outside noise. The area is about half hour train ride from central Chicago, however the actual area the hotel is wonderful. We spent loads of time in the area, there is plenty of shops and restaurants, its just a nice place to wonder about. I would recommend the restaurant attached to the hotel for breakfast and dinner, We had the most amazing dinner there, the best lobster I have ever ate! We would stay in the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone who does not mind a wee train ride into Chicago.

This hotel has the potential to be excellent. The location is perfect (Scoville Park, lots of convenient restaurants with good food, Frank Lloyd Wright architecture close by) and the service is great. Rooms have a little parlor with microwave and mini fridge and little sink. Quite nice. However, the hotel is showing some wear. Carpeting, flooring, furnishings could all be updated for a more pleasant experience. If TV is important to you, not all stations are accessible. Fridge froze the milk.

Booked a room for 5 nights through their own web site. Less than 12 hours later they tell me there was a system error; the actual price is 107% more than what I was quoted -- $701 instead of $338. Manager offered to trim that down to $500; only 48% more than the price their site had confirmed. I declined his offer and promised to never book there in the future. If they will not be responsible for their web site, would they be responsible for the staff, or their building? Who knows?

Although this hotel was built around 1926 and an interesting building, it was upsetting to see that the five drawer dresser in our room had two screws for handles. So to open a different drawer, take screws out of one drawer and put them in the drawer you want opened. With the cable TV, over half the stations were in Spanish; sorry but I live in America. When asking at the front desk, we were left feeling like dummies because we didn't know that the parking garage was over 2 blocks away.
This morning there were new staff and they were much more helpful. Over all the only good thing was the bathroom which was very modern and roomy. The town was lovely and we found some great eateries and things to do (Hemingway Museum, Frank Lloyd Wright, etc.)

We stayed in plenty of generic motels on our (9th) cross- country trip. In the historic city of Oak Park, it was the perfect change for us. They have handicapped access covered. We could park right in front and take the ramp around the side. The newer elevator was spacious for my scooter. Downtown and the neighborhood have much to offer and we went to a good bookstore, restaurant, and coffee shop. I did the Wright tour on a previous visit to Oak Park but being in the heart of the Wright district was great as well as near the Hemingway house. We ate a dinner and breakfast at Hemingways in the hotel and loved the food and atmosphere. The bathroom in our room was updated and we appreciated the little kitchenette. Although the bed was small, it had a good mattress. Staff was very helpful to us when we had a problem (of our own making). Our day and night in Oak Park are a great memory.

We have contacted the hotel 3 times for a discount/refund we were promised; no response. Be aware the free parking is several blocks away in a ramp, which we found rather inconvenient. I have to agree with the other review, the decor wasn't the greatest. We also were not told there was construction going on when we booked our room. Noisy. However, the location was great and walking the neighbor hood was fun. We had a drink in the bar and the bartender was charming.

Spent two night here in September 2012 for a short trip to Chicago. Found the Write Inn while researching affordable lodging. I had known of the Frank Lloyd Wright and Earnest Hemingway connections to Oak Park, so this sounded interesting. The hotel is of moderate size on the edge of the downtown Oak Park area and the beginning of a residential neighborhood. Very quiet. Chose the least expensive room, which was very basic and small, but perfectly comfortable. Loved the historic elevator! Front desk staff always very pleasant and helpful. I will stay there again.

Oak Park, by the way, is very convienent for a Chicago trip. It is on an EL line and there is frequent commuter train service, as well. Lots of nice restaurants and coffee shops.
