Quaint hotel with good food, nice beds, very good neighborhood. The hotel is a 1928 hotel. Check-in was fast, no issues. Staff was easy to deal with, helpful in having a cab ready when we were ready to fly home and reserved a cab for us the night before -- and the cab was there early morning waiting on us to get downstairs!

The front desk staff in the early part of the day were dreary and so unwelcoming. Also we were disappointed that we were not in the main, old hotel, but were out in a motel that was adjoining. The desk lady said that we had used Orbitz, as if it was a second rate reservation and wouldn't consider putting us in the main hotel. I wondered how many rooms there were sitting vacant and she could have made one guest contented. However the lobby was shabby, so perhaps the rooms were too.

Also we arrived midday and she would not let us check-in until 3:00. So we had to walk around for 3 hours when we were weary from travel.

The motel was ridiculously decorated from perhaps the 60's, but was very clean and comfortable. The walls were very thin, however, and we feared the neighbors were going to go on all night, but didn't.

Room Tip: Try another hotel.

We arrived and parked in their free off street parking. Our check-in was quick and without error. We found our spacious room immaculate and tasteful. The decor reflects the local influence of Frank Lloyd Wright. While the hotel is of an older era the whole place has been upgraded to the best modern standards. All fixture were shiny and new. The flat screen TV was discretely behind folding cabinetry. The secure wireless internet was plenty fast for me. The bed was very comfortable and, while the hotel was heavily booked, the room and halls were silent. We were surprised to find a kitchen and dining area off of the main room. What a gem! The cost was much more reasonable than one might expect for such a great stay. I can highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Carleton of Oak Park Motor Inn for 3 Nights. The Rooms have been clean, but had very thin walls. You could hear everything your neighbors said. The Hotel is located in a good neighborhood, but its a 20 minute ride with the green line to downtown Chicago. There are some restaurants near the hotel, I wouldn't recommend the Sportsbar inside the hotel. The food was ok but the service was terrible.
If you can live with a 20 minute ride to downtown and would like to save some money on the room, the Carleton is definitely a good choice for a few nights!

This property is privately owned and the owners pay particular attention to the needs of its guests. The lobby is beautiful and the attached restaurant is very good. I stayed in the main hotel which is definitely a step above the adjacent motor inn of the property. The motor inn is perfect for families but traveling as a couple the main hotel is much nicer. Great location, walking distance to green line (which is a quick hop to downtown Chicago), restaurants, frank Lloyd wright, and a great bike shop that you can rent to tour oak park. My room had an unusual odor and if I had been staying for more than one night I would have asked to switch but it was fine. Also, guests have access to YMCA down the street for exercise facilities. Would definitely come back!
