What a wonderful stay we had at Dumfries House Lodge! On our 3 week tour this was our very favorite stop. Dumfries House Lodge is near the village of Cumnock which is not much of a destination. However, we spent a lovely day coming south from Glasgow visiting in the town of Alloway with all the Robert Burns museums and exhibits. We also drove through Ayr to view the seaside. Our one night in Dumfries House Lodge was in Room #1 with a King bed. This room has a lovely window with view out to the road. Room #1 is directly above the sitting room with the TV, but we were never disturbed. Dumfries House Lodge would be a wonderful place to visit when travelling with friends as you are encouraged to make the house your “own”. As it turned out there were 4 couples celebrating together while we were there. Guests can use the kitchen for birthday cake, etc. There are two living rooms to relax in. We really enjoyed just walking the property and imagining life on the estate. We were welcomed warmly. The House is styled in lovely furnishings with attention to detail. The website gives an accurate depiction of the house. For dinner we decided to remain on the property and walked to the Woodlands restaurant. This restaurant looks very new. I’d suggest looking at the menu beforehand as we thought it was a bit pricey. There were large groups of families the night we dined, some with very young children and the noise level was high. It was fun to see the young chefs working earnestly. Breakfast at Dumfries House Lodge was delicious and prepared to order. Unlike other bed and breakfasts there is a server who takes your order for juice, cereal, etc. and then your entree- I had eggs benedict. Mark, the guest host, is charming and willing to assist.
