What a wonderful stay we had at Dumfries House Lodge! On our 3 week tour this was our very favorite stop. Dumfries House Lodge is near the village of Cumnock which is not much of a destination. However, we spent a lovely day coming south from Glasgow visiting in the town of Alloway with all the Robert Burns museums and exhibits. We also drove through Ayr to view the seaside. Our one night in Dumfries House Lodge was in Room #1 with a King bed. This room has a lovely window with view out to the road. Room #1 is directly above the sitting room with the TV, but we were never disturbed. Dumfries House Lodge would be a wonderful place to visit when travelling with friends as you are encouraged to make the house your “own”. As it turned out there were 4 couples celebrating together while we were there. Guests can use the kitchen for birthday cake, etc. There are two living rooms to relax in. We really enjoyed just walking the property and imagining life on the estate. We were welcomed warmly. The House is styled in lovely furnishings with attention to detail. The website gives an accurate depiction of the house. For dinner we decided to remain on the property and walked to the Woodlands restaurant. This restaurant looks very new. I’d suggest looking at the menu beforehand as we thought it was a bit pricey. There were large groups of families the night we dined, some with very young children and the noise level was high. It was fun to see the young chefs working earnestly. Breakfast at Dumfries House Lodge was delicious and prepared to order. Unlike other bed and breakfasts there is a server who takes your order for juice, cereal, etc. and then your entree- I had eggs benedict. Mark, the guest host, is charming and willing to assist.

Room Tip: Check out their website. We enjoyed Room #1 with the King bed.

Wow, we enjoyed our stay at the lodge. I do hope when the extension is finished that it does not lose the homely setting. There isn't a bad thing that I can say about the lodge. All the bedrooms have their own character , the breakfast is superb . The staff so attentive.Make sure that you visit Woodlands restaurant on the estate. Laurie and Leslie will look after you , the food is very good

We arrived on Saturday evening to a very warm welcome from Mark the Manager. We were shown to our room (room 6) it had a lovely four poster bed and huge bathroom with a roll top bath, twin sinks and shower. The whole place is decorated lovely and is made to feel like home from home. Downstairs there are 2 living areas where guests can relax in front of the fire, watch a film or just chill. Breakfast was in the new kitchen dining area. The food was delicious. We were very lucky as we were the only ones staying that weekend so we had the run of the place and sneakily checked out each bedroom. I have to say no matter which room we had been given we would not have been disappointed. All in all a fantastic place to stay and we are planning to go back later in the year.

Room Tip: the rooms are the end of the corridor 5 & 6 I think are the ones to choose. but all are very nic...

This is without doubt the best b&b I have stayed at. It was perfect in every way. With the magnificent Dumfries house as the backdrop, the setting of the lodge is superb. There has been no expense spared with the internal design of the lodge and the bedrooms are stunning. We had bedroom3 which has an Alexander Peter 4 poster bed. Our host Mark could not have looked after us any more than he did. His full Scottish breakfast (especially his fried egg) was the perfect way to start the day. I can't wait to book in to the lodge again soon.

Room Tip: I only saw bedroom 3 and 4. Both were magnificent!!!

What a great formula, friendly helpful and very hard working staff, beautifully decorated and furnished, spotlessly clean, delightfully comfortable bed and to top it all excellent breakfast. cannot be faulted.

The Lodge is current having a lot of work done to convert attached buildings at the rear to a number of new bedrooms, moving it from B&B to small hotel I suspect. I hope the standard they have achieved so far is maintained.

Thank you so much for a wonderful review. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again once the renovations have been completed. We work hard to keep the high standards. And when the new rooms open we will work just as hard to maintain them. The new rooms will be just as stunning as the lodge and I cannot wait for the opening day. We always enjoy reading the reviews and we hope you will come and sample the new rooms soon.

kindest regards Mark

We stayed for two nights, room 3 was lovely with the four poster and amazing bathroom. After a long drive a relaxing bath in the free standing tub was just what was needed.Mark gave us a warm welcome and a good dining recommendation (the Loch Side) as the restaurant at Dumfries House was not open on a Monday evening. The breakfast choice was good and I enjoyed the full Scottish. We were not disturbed at all by the building work and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: Room 3 for the bathroom and Four poster bed.

What a superb place. They have thought of everything you need to have a great break and the hospitality is second to none. We had to travel over 300 miles to get there, but it was worth every single mile. Make sure you save plenty of room for breakfast, it's one of the best I have ever had.

Room Tip: Have dinner in the Dumfries House restaurant. Bit pricey, but the food was excellent
