“Garden, Sea, Museum and Restaurant, all in one”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

We stayed here just one night; we were making a connection in Fiumicino airport and decided we would try this instead of spending the night at the airport Hilton. We were very glad we had done it. The setting of the sea and the gardens is peaceful and beautiful. The hotel site was excavated by archeologists, and the ancient artifacts found are on display. Some of them have been left in situ. The staff were helpful in many ways. We came away resolved to stay longer another time.

Dear Sir,
we apology to be back to you only now but it is always a real pleasure to read such important words about our property.
As you have underlined, the location of La Posta Vecchia Hotel is probably unique in his category: A renaissance house built upon the ruins of a Roman Villa of the II century B.C., one the sea and just few minutes driving from the Eternal City, Rome.
At la Posta Vecchia Hotel our Guests have the chance to spend their time relaxing to enjoy the enchantment of the history, the cuisine and the luxury. A unique place where to spend a couple of day before driving (just half a hour) to the Airport to come back to reality.
Gardens, Sea, Museum and Restaurant; we like to resume all this in just three simple words: La Posta Vecchia!
Many thanks for your time spent to share your experience with the TripAdvisor Travelers, we only wait the pleasure to welcome you back

The scent of this place remains with us long after we have left. Gardens dripping with jasmine and oranges and the hotel with its wonderful signature perfume. The location is stunning as it drops into the ocean and the service just lovely. We stopped by for a short drink and nibble after landing, on advice from a friend who had stayed here for a while. With a young baby we didn't book to stay longer as we thought perhaps it wouldn't be suitable, but sorely wish we had stayed. Cannot wait to go back and would recommend highly to anyone visiting Rome.

Dear Guest,

it is my personal satisfaction to read this feedback. Thanks to decided to share your opinion on TripAdvisor.
What I more appreciated of all your pleasant and honest words is the attention you paid to the scent we have; the scent studied by an Italian Maître Perfumer exclusively for La Posta Vecchia Hotel.
We are all well aware that “details make the difference”, above all in Luxury Hotels; well, also Guests make an important difference for us, I mean, for the staff working here.
You could have noticed the museum, the story of the house, the cuisine or even the location but you decided to focus on a very important detail … our branded Scent.
The smell is one of the five senses and a particular smell may remind you to good or bad memories.
I am really glad to heard that the smell of La Posta Vecchia reminded you to a very good memory of a pleasant stay in Italy, in particular at La Posta Vecchia.
Many thanks for the time you spent writing your experience with us and don't miss the opportunity to visit us once again. Best regards

Anna and I LOVE 'Il Pellicano' in Argentario, for us it's really sort of 'a home away from home', so we decided to give a try to its brother, 'La Posta Vecchia'. A good basis for visiting Ostia Antica and Bracciano, an expensive but luxurious 5-star hotel with a restaurant endowed with a Michelin star. It sounded promising....on paper.
Sadly, it was not the pleasure that it promised to be. When we arrived a local family was holding a private Communion party there, a lady had tripped on a doorstep and was making a fuss out of it. I was dreaming of peace and rest, I found myself with kids scurrying all over the place instead so I couldn't read my magazines in the common rooms. The restaurant is far from good, by the way.
I tried to forget these annoyances temporarily, at least until the moment of the final bill (expensive by any standards, enormous with this level of food....) asking for a good Martini cocktail, and there I did find some much-needed relief. Daniele, the Sommelier, is exactly the right guy for this exercise. I begged him to put a bottle of gin in the freezer at our arrival and he didn't ask what gin I wanted, he went straight for one of the best, putting a bottle of Martin Miller's to rest amongst the ice blocks. Then he was so smart to ask what type of Martini I did like: and he did it exactly as I wanted it. The result (stirred, not shaken; ice-cold; no lemon twists; only one olive, stoned; all this in a perfectly shaped conical stem glass) was very near an Utopian idea of alcoholic excellence.
A final review? at 1200+Euros for 2 nights, the hotel was quite good, the pool small but nice, the room spacious and room service impeccable, the personnel excellent, the Martinis amazing, the restaurant to be avoided at all costs. In doubt, you you can simply fast one evening asking for a double portion of tasty sablés with your Martini and it will be better than fighting with a rock hard beef filet that I was served the 2nd evening. And please forget any comparison with the 'Pellicano'.....

Room Tip: Any room over the sea will do.....

This beautiful hotel is a lovely place to recover from a cross-Atlantic trip - so close to Rome's airport and yet so removed in terms of atmosphere. A wonderful location, perched on the edge of the sea, with the relaxing sound of waves breaking against the seawall. The staff were very considerate and helpful and our room and bathroom were very spacious. There were stairs to reach it, however, so ask for an accessible room if you can't handle stairs. What makes the property unique is its history - there are original Roman remains on the lower level. The property has been lovingly restored and the history preserved. We would also recommend the restaurant - very good food and service.

Dear Traveller,
Thank you for the words chosen to describe your stay at La Posta Vecchia!
We are quite in the middle of everything, Rome city centre, main airport and nearest harbour, but far from the caos. Once the gate closes at your back everything is left behind!
Thank you for you kind suggetion of asking an accesible room for those who can’t handle stairs!
Being a XVII century House, we always write on our confirmation letter where the rooms are located, so if they are reacheble with elevetor or not.
Waitig you for another relaxing stay,

We stayed here the first night of our vacation - only 30 minutes from Fiumicino. It truly is a wonderful Relais & Chateaux. It was closing for the season shortly after we left, so there were very few people there. The setting is gorgeous and the hotel is beautiful. The staff is first rate. The restaurant has 3 red forks and a star in Michelin and while the food was delicious, it was not what I come to Italy to eat (much more upscale NYC than great Italian cooking). But for someone else, it's probably wonderful. It's difficult to find because there is a backward left turn (without signs) to get to the hotel. Luckily, I "drove" it on Google Maps before I left - and that made the trip very easy. I will return to La Posta Vecchia again.

Room Tip: In my opinion, the best rooms are those facing the Sea. Ours had a side view of the sea and you cou...

A lovely little lane lined with trees led us to this beautiful hotel about 30 minutes from the Rome airport - a perfect spot to recover from jet lag, soak up the Italian sun and begin a two-week visit to Italy. The staff greeted us at the entrance, whisked our luggage to our room and we were instantly at home. A fruit plate awaited us in our room overlooking the garden, with side views to the sea; and the non-alcoholic items in the minibar were complimentary - a generous touch and much appreciated after a long journey from the western U.S. The ancient ruins below the main level and in the landscaped gardens and grounds add to the sense of history, as does the Orsini palace just beyond the villa. We took the hotel's advice to heart: "At La Posta Vecchia, the bar is wherever you want it to be" - and enjoyed cocktails on the terrace, in the library, and in the quietly luxurious music/reception room just outside the dining room. Breakfast was amazingly lavish - and what a treat to sit on the sunny terrace, look out at the sea, and sip our cappuccinos each morning.
The Michelin-starred restaurant was a bit beyond our budget or appetites, although we had a fine dinner there our first night, despite having been up for 36 hours! We woke the next morning after a comfortable sleep in perfectly made, crisp bed linens to a spectacular view of the water and the castle from the charming medieval windows. The tiled bathroom was roomy, particularly by European standards; we were grateful for the American-style shower head, and the Ortigia amenities (we later saw an Ortigia shop in Rome!) added to the luxury.
While relaxation and not activity seems to be the order of the day at LPV, we had a vigorous walk to neighboring Marina San Nicola, a pleasant seaside town just beyond the villa gates - a path winds along the seaside for at least a mile or two. And for variety, we went into Ladispoli Sunday evening for dinner and had an outstanding meal at Marby. The hotel staff was impeccably polite, ready to respond to every need. Overall, a lovely and relaxing respite.

Room Tip: We had a double superior room with two twin beds, with lovely views of both the front of the villa...

We just stayed in this magnificent hotel out side of Rome. It sits perched at the edge of the Mediterranean and is surrounded by lovely grounds/gardens. Inside, it is a lavish, classically decorated villa with indoor pool, large sitting rooms, a library. Our room was enormous and had a canopied king bed. Tile was throughout.
Dining there was equally as impressive; we had one of our most spectacular meals there. And the breakfast (included ) was definitely the best buffet we had in any of the fine hotels in which we stayed.
The staff greets you at the door when you arrive and are are great
