“Beautiful beach!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014 via mobile

We spent 10 days here a few years ago and goodness, it is an experience which would entice all to a mozambique love affair.
A long stretch on beautiful beach undisturbed, scuba and diving school are excellent and food and bar great.
Fishing (not for me) was thoroughly enjoyed by the guys. Looking forward to heading back there soon!

We stayed at the Zavora Lodge in their backpackers accommodation, which was a twin room with a shared bathroom in a big house with a nice kitchen, refrigerator and freezer. Good value for money and we we're lucky, because there were no other backpackers, we basically had an entire house to ourselves.
The place is very clean, the staff comes in to clean the house every day and if you're not too quick with doing your own dishes in the morning, they'll do those too.
The reception features a basic store, which sells charcoal, meat and canned goods.

As a group of friends we stayed at Zavora lodge (Seagull unit) for a week in January 2014. Overall we were happy with the lodge and very impressed with the diving (There are very few things that can compare to a large Manta drifting over your head).

The lodge can use a little bit of maintenance (there was quite a bit of evidence that the new management have started with some of the much needed maintenance), but overall everything was clean and working. The unit was also cleaned each day.

The diving is excellent - lots of Mantas, Turtles and Sharks to see and a lot less traffic than other popular spots. Viz can be a little low at times (lowest we had was around 6m), but even then there is a lot to see.

We went to Zavora instead of Tofo for our week of diving vacation because it was out of the way and far away from the crowds. We picked well!

the beach was absolutely gorgeous
the diving was definitely not for beginers, large swells, deep dives, nitrox necessary, mediocre visibility.
the room was clean, simple, and cleaned if you would leave the key at front lobby.
the food was okay yet the quality was irregular. breakfast was good. it is a very western menu with few vegetables (lots of french fries)... that being said, the prices for food was great.

no hassels vacation

We had a very good 3 night stay in Zavora Lodge (booked through Scuba Mozambique). Zavora is remote but that is the point of going. Very long empty stretch of beach. Excellent food throughout the stay. Good clean rooms. We did some dives with Moz Divers (next door). Not great conditions for diving whilst we were there which was a shame but Moz Divers were very professional and nice people. It was whale season so still plenty of whales to see from the boat/land.

We stayed in september, during the low season and also the time of the year to see humpback whales. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Good food and an amanzing view to watch humpback whales. New managers working hard to provide even better service.

...the lodge itself is more of a 'Good' no frills accommodation.
This was one of the hightlights of our trip to Mozambique simply for the incredible opportunity to get close to giant mantas and humpback whales - a wonderful experience!
The location is fairly remote - you need a 4 wheel drive or to organise a transfer with the lodge - but is well worth for the dramatic raw scenario. Jill, the manager, was really helpful and super efficient and organised perfectly timed transfers for us.
The lodge comprises a few mismatched buildings spread on the top of the a sand dune with fabulous views of the massive bay, a little restaurant and a fantastic dive center (mozdivers) which is the real reason for coming here!! John and Yara are professional, friendly and genuinely interested in marine conservation. Due to conditions the dives can be a hit or miss as viz can be very poor but that nutritive soup attracts wonderful creatures and we were fortunate to spend a magical hour underwater surrounded by gentle Giant mantas! August being the whale season we saw many from the boat and could hear them calling during our dives. the dive guides (Mani, Zinho and Mauro) were great at spotting them and would slow down and get close so we could get a good look.
We had a 'mini' house with sea views, two basic rooms, a bathroom and a reasonably well furnished kitchen (which works only if you bring your provisions as there are no shops anywhere around!). We were happy enough eating at the restaurant everyday - there was enough variety, a good drinks selection and the food was fairly good.
