The garden room is lovely, bed comfortable, towels huge, a small fridge, a sitting area. So why won't we be back ?
We had to pay 50% deposit by cheque up front - fair enough. However on arrival, after a grueling journey, the owner skipped any of the social niceties that are usual in B&Bs and went straight into Victoria Woods Nottingham hotel scenario - We had to fill in this registration form ( which had all the info they had already had by letter and email and over the phone) and a request was made for the rest of the money in cash. My request to see the room first was met with, but truculently, as if unreasonable. We were the only guests that night.
The breakfast, ordered at the time of booking and paid for up front is served in the room. You are only allowed the choice of sitting in the dining room ( which we never saw) if you pay for a full English. This lack of choice about where to eat is inflexible, but the breakfast itself was nice enough croissants, jam, fruit and bottled orange juice. Served at precisely the time we had ordered it. Instant coffee or tea had to be made using the kettle in the room and water from the bathroom. A jug of milk was left in the fridge. A notice in the room told us if we needed any extra tea or coffee there would be an additional charge.
We had booked two nights, and returned at lunchtime for a break. It was a very cold day, but the heating was off, the owners out and no other form of heating available. Not very welcoming. It was too cold to stay there.
