Visited Quarnford Lodge with a large group of friends. There were 20 of us, including 7 children, and we had a great weekend with lots of fun and laughter (aided in part by the karaoke machine!). The accommodation is very well presented and was just perfect for us. The kids said it was the best hide and seek house ever! The fact that every room has its own bathroom meant that we still had an element of privacy despite the size of the group. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and a good size for cooking for so many people. The owners seem really nice and accommodated all our needs. Every member of the group is looking forward to our next visit! Thank you :-)
Fantastic house for a large group of friends or family. The bedrooms are spread about the house so we never felt we were on top of each other. Great having separate sitting room for kids etc. Lovely and warm, great facilities would recommend 100%
I would grade the house itself as excellent - overall rating is very good as it's on quite a busy road. It's very safe as you can close the front gate but it may be a consideration for young children/dogs.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and am hoping to return
I give Quarnford Lodge 9 out of 10, simply because what makes it a great place to stay is the people you share it with. Anywhere that has room for a large family, a group of friends or even colleagues numbering some 20 odd (I believe the absolute capacity is 26 or 28) in 10 bedrooms, each with its own bathroom just has to be marvellous.
The kitchen is ample – two dishwashers, two ovens, two fridges – with enormous amounts of crockery and cutlery. The pool table attracted the younger family members, and some not so young, and most of us played table tennis games ranging from highly competitive to slow and friendly. Buxton, only 3 or4 miles away, has plenty to offer by way of entertainment (the Opera House etc) and shopping with Waitrose, Aldi, M&S etc. Some of the party went to the municipal swimming pool, which one of us pointed out that he had last visited it 41 years ago!
All in all, we had a great time.
However, there are one or two niggles. The Visitors book has a number of suggestions, principally that the owner should provide wardrobes in each room. As it happens, some rooms have wardrobes, others have chests of drawers. I don’t remember a single one having both. In our case, we had only a wardrobe which meant that we had to leave small items such as socks, underwear in the suitcase rather than in a drawer – and as there was no stand, we had to leave the case on the floor and bend down every time we wanted something - another niggle. I think that the rooms are large enough for a small chest of drawers, or shelving could be incorporated into the wardrobe, as most people do not need too much space for just a few days.
Before leaving from home, I told my wife not to bother to bring a hairdryer as there was bound to be one in each room. Well, there wasn’t, and thanks to a couple who were coming a day later than the rest and whom we told of the missing hairdryers, we had just one among 14 ladies, all of whom had automatically assumed that this essential piece of equipment would be supplied!
Another quibble is that there were no plugs in the bathroom for electric shavers, or to charge mobile phones in the case of family coming from abroad - or of course, hairdryers.
A chair in the bedroom would also have been roundly welcomed.
Finally, although there are two routers, the wi-fi coverage was terrible. The owner does point this out in his book on the house, and suggests the dining room for the best coverage. There was absolutely no way we could connect up when we were upstairs in our bedroom. OK, this was a holiday, a family reunion, but some members of the family could not make it to Quarnford and wanted to be in touch while a couple of others had to be on line to check on their businesses. The problem is poor/slow coverage in rural areas. Why can`t BT do something about this?
But, to repeat – in spite of these mostly minor grouses, we all had an amazing time and are thinking of another family reunion in 2018, and we would be hard put to find somewhere as good as Quarnford.
Party weekend with 17 family and friends at the Lodge to celebrate my 50th birthday. The house was a perfect venue with plenty if space for all especially the large dining area. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need for large groups. The bedrooms are lovely all with ensuite and all towels and bedding etc are provided. The house was very clean and tidy throughout. The wood burner is a bonus for cosy nights.
The location was lovely with great views. There is a pub about 5 mins walk away which was also handy.
I would definitely recommend Quarnford Lodge as an excellent venue/ party house for a large group.
We used Quarnford for a family weekend/celebration and found the venue ideal. Everywhere was clean and in good state of repair, the rooms were all very comfortable and warm and the facilities such as two ovens, two dishwashers, pool table , Karaoke etc all made for a very easy and enjoyable weekend. Considerate touches by the owners such as a Christmas tree and decorations made the whole place very cosy and welcoming We ate at the pub down the road (Knights table) where the host was most welcoming and served delicious food, we then had take away delivered from Buxton., again good service and food.
Just returned from our annual family reunion. We usually go to the seaside but found Quarnford Lodge website when looking for a place that could take 28 over 3 generations. We were delighted with the accommodation, which was warm, spacious, comfortable and offered all the amenities we needed. Everyone loved the minstrel gallery. Bedrooms were comfortable, good showers, plentiful hot water. One tip - don't put families with young children over the pool table and karaoke! We ate well at the Royal Oak, Hurdlow, well worth the drive, and visited Poole's Cavern, shopped in Buxton, and walked on The Roaches in a sunny window of otherwise awful November weather. Would strongly recommend Quarnford Lodge.'
We have just had a family reunion at Quarnford Lodge (14 adults, 13 children) For this purpose it was excellent in every way. A lovely location, although close to the road that didn't disturb us and made finding it very easy. The spec of decor, linen, crockery etc. is very good. We kitchen is kitted out brilliantly for a big group, with 2 dishwashers & abundant crockery etc. The whole house was clean, well kept and very comfortable. We had 1 slight heating problem, but otherwise great plumbing etc. (rare in large houses with big groups). The high ceilinged dining room is a lovely space, the rooms are all well done. The decor is tasteful without being intrusive.
There is free wifi, it was patchy, but that was all the better for spending quality time together! The wood burning stove was very good, the TVs like almost everything else worked well.
We were there for an autumn weekend, so didn't need outdoor space, there isn't much, but then you are in a stunning location in the Peak district!
[I didn't personally liase with the landlords so can't comment on service]
