If you're expecting a similar experience to the Melting Pot, lower your expectations. This place is just not there yet. If there service doesn't get better, they aren't going to be open long enough to improve.

When we arrived, we were seated quickly, but from there the service slowed to a crawl. We waited 10-15 minutes for drinks, when we were seated in the bar area. From there, it took probably another 30 minutes to bring out each of our selections (cheese fondue, broth fondue, chocolate fondu) Refills were non-existent. It seemed like our server was there when we didn't need her, and disappeared when we did.

As for the food, we started with the traditional swiss cheese fondue, which was a little bland. The basket of breads and fruit that came with it was underwhelming. I can honestly say, I never thought I'd eat a traditional cheese fondue with a pretzel stick. Also odd, it was $3 to add a tiny plate of broccoli and cauliflower -- seriously?

Next was the broth fondue. We went with the Big Sampler for our table of 4. What a mess! So much filler, and so little substance. There were only 4 thin slices of beef, 4 thin slices of pork, 6 shrimp, and 6 pieces of tilapia. Everything else was veggies, a good chunk of which you couldn't even use fondue forks with. The broth itself had no flavor. The dipping sauces were clearly bottled, and an afterthought to the meal.

The chocolate fondue had the most promise, but again the selection of dipping pieces was off. We had half of the fondue left, and nothing left to dip.

They really need to sort these things out. A quick trip by their team to the Melting Pot would open their eye to what they could be.

pretty expensive, I have been to melting pot before in chicago, so was assuming this would be similar. They just didnt offer enough food for the price, was very hungry still. The place is nice to take a date and get drinks but again very expensive. Also didn't like all the waiting. Nice to try, would not go again.

Hi Jake,

I'm sorry for your experience here at Mango. We are still young, independent, and ever-improving. While the Melting Pot is an established and respectable American chain restaurant, our passionate team here seeks to create a different experience than the one popularized by the successful chain. The comments we receive from the Peoria community help us grow and we take them all very seriously as we constantly evaluate where we can get better and provide more value. We hope that you give us another try in the future.

Agree with all reviews here thusfar. Atmosphere is barely different from other restaurants who previously occupied the place. The food is average at best. Great idea, but not enough selection / variety to have us go back. We too left hungry after a $65 meal for two with no alcohol plus dessert and went for dessert somewhere else.
On the dessert ... They offer several items to dip in chocolate: rice krispie which I swear are prepackaged from store. Pound cake I swear is Sara lee. A strawberry cut in quarters, pineapple. marshmallows. My point is bare minimum. The coffee is labeled as their speciality made for them exclusively by a local bean store. It was not special and tasted like it had been sitting in the pot forafew hours.
This place will not survive without repeat customers. They will not get repeat customers at these price points with no variety. Try it yourself. Tell me if you agree.

Hi Karen,

I'm sorry for your experience. From the beginning, we've been listening very closely to public responses and we look at these thoughts not negatively, but as insight into how we can improve and bring more value to the community. While, we aren't perfect, we are an incredibly passionate group and dedicated to bringing something not only unique to the Peoria community, but something that is very well a part OF the Peoria community. We will be making it a point to keep improving and evolving alongside Peoria and we hope that in the future you will give us another try.

Thank you.

We have been to a fondue restaurant in he Chicago area, so we were prepared for what was in store. We started with the cheese fondue (Swiss), had the meat lovers 1/2 and 1/2. We cooked a piece at a time to make it last longer. (We were hungry)! Then to end the night we had the dark chocolate wih orange Liqueur which was caught on fire just prior to eating. The kids (teenagers) thought it was pretty cool. The hubby and I will be back to try the other cheese fondue and dessert!
