I don't travel often, so I'm pretty sensitive about where I stay. I was impressed by the unique quality of the Mark Twain Hotel. The staff at the front desk were very friendly, but I found the housekeeping staff to be a bit rude. The hotel itself was very clean with a good amount of space in the room and Bath and Body Works toiletries in the bathroom. The attached restaurant had a very average yet pricey dinner. However, the breakfast buffet was amazing and the staff there were equally as friendly and helpful as the desk staff. In total, I had a very comfortable stay and enjoyed the experience. If provided the opportunity, I would not hesitate to visit again.

Just spent two nights at the mark Twain. Overall it was a good experience. We booked a studio room at the Family Riverplex Pass package rate of #129/night for two people in a studio room. The room was very nice - good desk area, flatscreen TV with DVD and surround sound, refigerator and microwave, bathroom with walk-in shower (shower only - no tub). Unfortunately the hotel has the noisy individual room heater/AC systems that rooar when the fan is on an roar even louder when the AC kicks in. I truly hate these units! The kng bed had a matress that was extremely firm - i.e., rock hard. Although the room faced the road, we didn't find traffic noise to be a problem (thanks, perhaps, to the AC). Free parking, two drink coupons per adult per night, and decent cooked to order options of eggs, omelets and waffles plus other items on a hot buffet helped offset the relatively high rate for the hotel. A good option if trtavel takes you to downtown Peoria.

I come to Peoria often, and as my best friend works at Caterpillar next door, it's a great place to meet up and have a drink or an amazing Greek Pizza before we hit the town. The lobby and bar are amazing, think Teddy Roosevelt's study. The rooms are cute with great toiletries. However, the windows have slat blinds on them and the lights from the bridge make it difficult to sleep. There aren't too many other restaurants within walking distance for dinner, but there are great lunch carts in that area. The bar at the Mark Train is so good, you'll want to stay there, though. I get free drink tickets, too, not sure if everyone gets that. Also, there's no business center or wireless internet, so if you want to get some work done, you need to go somewhere else. The staff will be happy to print you out Yahoo Maps or get you phone numbers. they're great.

It was worth it. Wife and I enjoyed a day and night overlooking the Illinois River from our fourth floor room. From the lobby to our room, all was first class. In the morning, breakfast of omelets completed our fantasy. We left Peoria knowing that, one day, we would return to the Mark Twain Hotel.

Staff, room and free breakfast in the morning were great as was the wifi, sitting room and decor. Even better was the free dvd's and popcorn. Not so great was the noise from the interstate if your room faces the river. Once my room was changed, it was a perfect stay.

When we lived in Peoria a few years back, the Mark Twain had a reputation for mediocrity. We had heard they made significant renovations, decided to give it a try and are so glad we did! They have really freshened up what had been a very tired hotel. It now has a boutique hotel feel instead of a run-down atmosphere. The rooms are lovely - comfortable and nicely decorated, and they have made an effort to provide storage space in what are fairly small rooms. (It is still an older hotel!) They have yet to get around to replacing the old TVs with flat screens, but since we were not there to watch TV that was not an issue. They have also added a fitness room, which was not the best but served my needs. Our room rate included 2 free drinks per person per night plus a decent hot breakfast. We did not have a chance to go to the restaurant (Two25) for dinner, but locals tell us it is outstanding.

Very nice hotel from the lobby on up. Lobby is an old fashioned library--very plush. With a coffee/hot chocolate machine. Staff are nice and helpful. Room was nice and spacious and the bed comfy. Had DVD player and good sound system. Also had a whole catalog of movies to borrow from them. Room had the quietest fridge ever and the best use of space for their ironing board. Restaurant on site is very good. Dinner is not included but breakfast is and the chefs make anything just the way you like. Excellent waffles. FD also gives you two free drink coupons per night of stay.
Lodging there gets you admission to the Riverplex which is a great gym offering everything you need. Hotel uses Bath and Bodyworks products. John the concierge was very helpful and can help you plan anything you need. Hertz onsite. Everything in Peoria is just a few mins drive away and quite a few things walkable.

My only problem with hotel staff is that upon checkin they didn't tell me about the Riverplex and I found out later. Only reason I did not give this hotel full marks is for the noise outside. My view of the river was very nice but there is a lot of traffic. Usually it really bothers my sleep but it did not this time. I am going back there!
