“Catered meal was a real treat.”
Reviewed 21 March 2016 for a stay in March 2016

We stayed at the hall as a large family with 16 adults and 6 young children. A great time was had by all!
The previous reviews say everything, but we thought we would give Lynn Hilditch catering a special mention.
We chose this caterer fairly randomly, as we didn't know any in the area. We were not disappointed! The food was excellent and everybody enjoyed the fayre. The sticky toffee pud is a real winner!
The meal was superb, only enhanced by the fact that all of the washing up was sorted out by the two hard working lasses.
Thanks Lynn! Hope we can repeat this at some time in the future.

“marvelous memories are made at Melmerby”
Reviewed 25 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

located in the picturesque village of Melmerby ,the Hall stands proudly within stunning grounds.
Melmerby Hall is a magical setting. The dark red dining hall with huge open fire made the perfect setting for my 50th birthday gathering.with so many reception rooms you can spread yourself out & relax.
the family kitchen is 'wow'. ...dominated by a glass ceiling like an orangery, a massive refectory table & granite topped island where we all chatted, played silly games & did jigsaws. All 9 bedrooms were beautifully decorated & the attention to detail with accessories & bedding made it feel homely .
Would I visit again? Absolutely,an annual family visit is already being planned.
The owners & the housekeeper are extremely helpful.

“The best large house we have ever stayed in!”
Reviewed 9 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We always meet up once a year with our friends, 7 couples. We choose a large house for a 3 night weekend stay. Melmerby hall was exceptional. It is a stunning house, extremely well kept and provides everything you need for a fabulous break. Jilly, the manager, was so helpful, both before and during our stay. All the bedrooms are beautifully furnished, the kitchen is really well equipped and the communal rooms have such a lovely ambiance. After returning from long walks and cycling, it was fantastic to relax with log fires and underfloor heating in the breakfast room/kitchen, so comfortable! We enjoyed the little village of Melmerby, managing to visit the Bakery/tearooms, antique shop and toy shop, everyone was so friendly. We will definitely return to Melmerby hall in the future.

“Amazing house, beautiful location, fantastic stay, can t wait to return”
Reviewed 25 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

Just returned from a 3 night stay with a large group of friends. It was like stepping back in time in the nicest possible way. I felt like I was in a set from Downton Abbey. The house itself was beautiful and a perfect setting for our annual get together as the theme was a belated spooky Halloween ( fancy dress). It exceeded our expectations and more. Everything from the open fires, grand decor throughout (including spacious bedrooms, some with four poster beds) down to the open fires, large aga and well equipped spacious kitchen. Nothing was left to chance and the beautiful welcome hamper was a lovely touch. It is in a beautiful location if you want to get away from it all, beautiful walks and nearby shepherds inn pub diner and village shop. Can t wait to return. Thank you to the Rowley Estates staff.

“Perfect place for luxurious stay - highly recommended!”
Reviewed 24 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

A group of friends have just returned from a visit in this beautiful hall. An impressive approach through a bricked archway leads into the grounds of this breathtaking property. Surrounded by its own woodland grounds the property is nestled a stones throw from the village bakery, shop and pub so very convenient for a car free weekend. A number of walks from the property too affords beautiful scenery and suitable for all ages and abilities. The hall itself is amazing, pictures do not really do this place justice. We spent much of our time in the bright and airy breakfsting kitchen making full use of the aga and underfloor heating. Time was also spent in the huge family lounge area and we lit the real fires in the drawing room and library to add ambiance. The hall is tastefully decorated throughout and stocked to such a high standard, the owners really have thought of everything. What helps to make this place even better is the service provided by Rowley estates. Nothing has been too much trouble, speedy responses to any contact whilst arranging the weekend and going out of their way to make our stay as memorable s possible, especially Jilly and Helen - thanks from us all, we made lots of lovely memories at Melmerby and would definitely recommend and return.

“Perfect location for any large get together, beautiful property fully equipped and extremely comfortable.”
Reviewed 26 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

Just back from celebrating my sister's 60th with our extended family. We had a wonderful time I highly recommend this stunning property. I have never stayed anywhere that was so comfortable and so well equipped, we lacked for nothing. Lyn Hildith prepared a delicious meal served in the sumptuous dining room, a special place for a special occasion. The grounds are perfect for all the family to explore, the children loved the space both inside and outside the house. Everything was provided for the baby in our party too.

“Fantastic venue for a special weekend”
Reviewed 22 October 2015 for a stay in October 2015

We stayed at Melmerby Hall for my 60th Birthday weekend with the family, 17 adults, 2 toddlers, 1 baby and the dog and it was amazing. The rooms were beautiful and all different. The kitchen was very well equipped to cater for this many people and the conservatory/breakfast room was brilliant. The dining room was superb and make a very special place to eat a celebratory meal in. The grounds were great for walking the dog and for everyone to get some fresh air. The village was interesting and everyone was fascinated by the toy maker behind the bakery, which does a great bread roll to take back as too many to sit inside. Thank you for a wonderful and memorable stay. I'd love to return for another stay.
