“The Most Beautiful, Perfect Place to Stay (and run a yoga retreat!)”
Reviewed 19 December 2016 for a stay in October 2016

Well I am sat in the Rowley Estates other property - Wythburn Cottage (also truly idillic) looking out at Blencowe which has reminded me that I have yet to write a review for when I hired Blencowe!!

I hired Blencowe in October for 21 yogis to attend my UK Yoga Retreat and it was the most perfect, incredible weekend! There are only ever positive comments to be made about Blencowe Hall - it is the most beautiful, massive, yet welcoming place I have stayed in and I can't wait to hire it again for future retreats.

Christine and Jilly are lovely and ever so helpful, replying to emails, phone calls, texts promptly. Blencowe has everything you would need - even laminated maps of walks so you can take them out with you.

All my Yogis adored their stay here and have all asked that we return (and also have a salsa night next time too!).

Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?   Yes.

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to provide some feedback regarding your yoga retreat at Blencowe Hall. It's great to hear that you and your clients for the retreat enjoyed your holiday.
We would be delighted to welcome you for a return visit and perhaps join in for a session as us on the Rowley Estates team could definitely do with improving our flexibility and calmness which comes with yoga! Thank you again for choosing to come to Blencowe Hall for your retreat break, best regards Christine, Charlie and Jilly

“Our perfect country castle!”
Reviewed 4 December 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We stayed at Blencowe Hall for a long weekend to celebrate our 40th birthdays with friends. As soon as we saw the house we loved it - it's a beautiful old building with stunning rooms. Even the smaller rooms are so romantic and cosy. We wished we could wake up every day in the huge four poster with views out of the massive windows in the south tower master bedroom.

The kitchen is very well equipped: we lacked for nothing that we needed to cook for family and friends. And a hamper full of goodies waited for us when we arrived. The housekeeper was very helpful - even providing extra bedding so we could have a couple of different guests on the last night.

We had also booked Wythburn cottage, for some of our friends, which worked very well having them just across the courtyard.

The dining room was lovely, particularly in candle-light, and we managed to seat 27 guests to a superb meal catered by Lynn Hilditch catering. She did a fantastic roast beef with all the trimmings, preceded by canapés and followed with rhubarb and ginger crumble. There was loads of food and she and her staff did an excellent job, serving the drinks and food.

It's a pleasant stroll to the nearby village of Greystoke, and the Boot and Shoe is worth popping into for a beer and food.

“Fantastic Holiday Location”
Reviewed 30 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Two of us were turning 40 in November/December, so we treated a bunch of friends (we were 19 in total) to a week in this fabulous castle manor.

The description on the website was certainly promising, but we were slightly nervous to see how it compared in person. I'm pleased to say it exceeded pretty much all expectations. It's a fantastic place, with several common areas, large and small, and well-appointed bedrooms (although closet space can be on the limited side for longer stays). The kitchen deserves a special mention, providing 2 large refrigerators, 2 dishwashers, a large AGA oven as well as a conventional hob/oven, and a large supply of crockery/utensils/glassware.

The environs are beautiful, and the nearby mountains and Aira Force waterfalls provide many walking/hiking options for those so inclined. A Morrisons is only a few miles away in Penrith, allowing easy restocking of groceries.

On the last day, none of us wanted to leave; we will probably be making a week's stay here a wintery tradition for years to come.

“A magical place to gather with all the family”
Reviewed 28 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

What a fantastic place. We stayed for a long weekend with 21 of the family. Amazing views and a treat to stay in a gem of restored Grade 1 fortified house. It had everything we needed for 4 families sharing - big kitchen and dining room and a great room to sit round the fire and play fun games. All the bedrooms were very comfortable and the whole house was very warm. We will definitely be back!

“Stunning Location for a Family Gathering”
Reviewed 16 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

I stayed here in August 2016 to celebrate my step-fathers 50th, to sum it up in a few words... Impressive, Atmospheric, Homely, Welcoming... I could go on! There were 20 of us staying including children & dogs. We were made to feel very welcome and the place was very well equipped (cooking dinner for circa 36 on the aga was a fabulous experience!). Very clean with lovely fluffy towels and a fab welcome hamper. The grounds are just jaw dropping, we were very lucky with the weather and to sit on the lawn drinking pimms through to a glass of wine watching shooting starts. If you are looking for the perfect setting for a wedding/family gathering this is well worth a look!

“Cazenovia Hall for us was spot on.”
Reviewed 12 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

We are a group of four gentlemen who first met and became best buddies over 50 years ago. We soon married and became a group of four couples and we are still all together today. Following retirements the whole group chose to get together every third year.
We had had three reunions overseas and three in Great Britain using Rural Retreats exclusively to choose our venues.
We had found each "home" venue exciting, innovatively designed, delightfully located and faultlessly presented.
Cazenovia Hall became our fourth "home" venue and, once again, surpassed our expectations, thoroughly delighting us with its own uniqueness and most careful presentation.
Cazenovia Hall for us was spot on.
We would also like to thank LYNN HILDITCH for her excellent service in providing a most scrumptious dinner.

“Fantastic place for a special occasion.”
Reviewed 1 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Booked Blencowe Hall for a 50th birthday celebration. We had a great time. It was everything we had hoped and more. The large kitchen is really well equipped for cooking for a big group and there is of plenty room. Nice to have an Aga and conventional oven. The bedrooms come in different shapes and styles but were all lovely. Rooms were warm and clean. We enjoyed being able to eat outside one evening and the lawn is a lovely place to sit and relax on a sunny day. Good views across to the Pennines and the hall is such fun when it is lit up at night. We stayed in summer and had good weather so enjoyed the grounds but I can imagine it would be lovely too in the winter with all the fires lit. Special mention for Jilly the head housekeeper/manager who was especially helpful answering questions before arrival. Would be great to go back one day.
